Description: A passion for friendship, food and wine fed the genesis of Jeffrey's. It continues to endure today. The restaurant first took shape in 1975 when Jeffrey Weinberger and Ron and Peggy Weiss, friends from student days at the University of Texas, pooled their interests, talents, and enthusiasm with three other pals to open an intimate neighborhood bistro in Austin, such as they had encountered in their travels. They were part of the first wave of new American cuisine, and over the years they made their mark with an original flair that is unmistakably Jeffrey's alone. Chef Deegan McClung is known for accenting regional flavors and ingredients with European recipes and techniques in order to create a unique cosmopolitan style.

“An Austin Institution”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

The food is always as good as it gets here in Austin. Understated elegance. It has new ownership and I haven't been there since it changed hands but word has it that it is as good as ever.

“Surprisingly not memorable”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2012

Jeffrey's has been on the top of lists forever. For some reason, I have never remembered a meal there. Nothing stood out. Not service, not food, not atmosphere. I've been there a few times, too. Hmmm. Well, I guess I don't remember anything BAD. Is that a plus?

“Amazing pastries”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2012

The executive pastry chef concocts amazing desserts. Try the chocolate eye, the opera and any of the assortment of wonderful ice creams. For a short time only as this icon is closing for renovations next month and not reopening for 4-6 months.

Among the fabulous entrees is the duck confit and the prosciutto rubbed rib eye.

“Would have liked some more”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

I went to Jeffrey's together with a couple of friends and it was overall a really nice experience; the ambience is nice (especially as a contrast to all the hectic activity of SXSW), the service was impecable and the food was nice and tasty. The only thing I could have wished for would be a bit more of each dish (except the creme brule which was a bit too big and orange-spiked bordering on bitter after my taste).

Overall a very nice experience and I don't have any qualms recommending this restaurant, even if it is a little pricy.
