“So Much More Than a “Bistro””
Reviewed August 21, 2014

The term “bistro” doesn’t do this restaurant justice. Although its intimate ambience and locally-sourced menu fit the bill, Bess Bistro offers everything you’d want in an upscale dining experience. The service is impeccable, from the valet to the host to the wait staff. The interior has the cool, eclectic vibe of a late-night, members’ only underground club. However, the menu is the real star. We started with a cheese board which had a truly amazing – and delicious – presentation. We also sampled several of the appetizers, but the Fried Green Tomatoes stole the show (and really could double as a suitable entrée). Our main meals, the slow-roasted chicken along with the lobster and hangar steak special, were artfully prepared with fresh vegetables and ingredients, offering a true foodie so much more than the menu described. In our experience, restaurants attached to celebrities are typically not anything to alert the paparazzi about, but Sandra Bullock has certainly scored another Oscar-worthy performance here.

“Great food, ambiance, and service - that almost never happens!”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

It's like a triple crown! Usually between food, ambiance, and service one ends up failing, but not at Bess Bistro.
The meal:
Brussel Sprouts (just the perfect blend of lemon zest and caramelized onions to make the perfect appetizer/starter)
Arugala, burrata cheese, peach salad (this is usually way out of my comfort zone, this was amazing!)
Then a ravioli dish with a fresh ratatouille red sauce that was absolute perfection.
The service:
attentive (without being too attentive during the meal), helpful with wine and meal recommendations, and prompt.
The ambiance:
You go down a few stairs to enter the restaurant so it's a cellar feel, a nice white table cloth without having to really dress up. The noise level was perfect, we could talk at our table without competing against other noise but not quiet that you felt you had to be careful to keep it down, great balance.

Highly recommend Bess Bistro!!

“Excellent!”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

I have eaten here on two occasions and found it to be a nice, quiet place with very good food. We sat on the deck upstairs one time and in the intimate and romantic dining room once.

“A foodies paradise.”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

In town for a family wedding, I took my sister here for dinner to catch up. The place is relaxing and beautiful on the inside. The bartenders and servers (Samuel rocks!) were top notch. Friendly, inviting, great at what they do. We had an amazing dinner. Bistro is my favorite style cuisine so this place was perfect for me. We shared the fried artichokes - amazing - one of the salads we sent back for being heavy handed on the salt, but Samuel was accommodating and understanding. I had the slow cooked chicken w sweet corn and it was great. Sister had the rib eye and it was tender and delicious. When she got up to use the restroom, I ate the rest of her steak. Don't tell her. The dessert, an olive oil short cake with fresh berries and zesty lemon - was A-MAZE-ING! French press coffee to top it all off. A gem of a place - can't wait to come back.

One of my favorite spots in ATX. The service is always impeccable and the food is amazing! A must stop every time I travel to Austin. The décor is intimate. They also offer a lovely happy hour on the rooftop deck.
