“Clean, modern hotel”
Reviewed August 22, 2014 via mobile

This is standard chain hotel with clean, spacious, cool rooms.
Very close to convention center and had a nice bar/restaurant. Not very personal, but that not to be expected with such a large hotel. Higher floors have great views of Austin.
A very nice oasis, offering respite from the Texas heat.

Everything about my stay was perfect. Every employee from the front desk to maintenance person in elevator said hello and super nice. The breakfast buffet was really fresh with special dishes you don't normally see on breakfast buffets. Nutrition conscious as well as tasty. I come to Austin regularly and this was my first of many times to stay at this Hyatt.

Comfortable accommodation in the heart of downtown Austin, near nightlife, dining and sightseeing. Very friendly and attentive staff made my stay at the Hyatt Place a memorable experience. Highly recommended for business or pleasure. I will definitely be back.

Excellent rooms, staff and location. Valet is ridiculously overpriced at $29/night, and they lost our car when we were leaving and it took them 30 minutes to find it. They were very polite, apologetic and were obviously working hard to find it, but still very aggravating.

Check in and parking:
The hotel only offers valet parking at $29 per night, which is a bit on the pricier end, but most hotels in downtown Austin will charge you for parking. We drove around the area looking for a cheaper parking option, but didn’t find any that was convenient.

Check in was fast and the staff was courteous and friendly. They noted that they had honored my request for a quiet floor, so they put us on the top 18th floor, with a nice view of downtown. After doing all the paperwork, the clerk said she would walk around the main desk to hand me my key. It was a bit awkward for her to walk around the desk to just hand me the keys when she could have just handed them to me over what was a pretty low counter, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless, though unnecessary.

Room and bathroom:
The room was as advertised. Away from the elevator, and being on the top floor and on the side facing away from the 6th street bars, it was perfectly quiet at night. The view was very nice.
The bathroom was spacious although it lacked counter space. The shower was great and had lots of water pressure. The only thing not working on the bathroom was the door latch, as it didn’t seem to grab the hook, but it wasn’t a big deal.

Amenities:
The hotel has free wifi, a pool and a fitness center. The fitness center was spacious and well equipped. The pool was small and it was empty. There is something about indoor pools in Texas that I just don’t get. I don’t feel like they are necessary due to the mild winters and hot summers. Being indoors, the smell of chlorine was overpowering.

The common areas in the lobby felt somewhat small but the hotel has a relatively small footprint.

Breakfast:
The best feature of the hotel is the complimentary hot breakfast including the skillets, which were great. I also enjoyed their french toast. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the fruit toppings for the yogurt, as they were very runny and quite frankly very watery and tasteless. Everything else I tried was great.

The sitting area was busy, but the crowd was turning over and we were able to find a table. The food was excellent and it had plenty of variety. The buffet crew was busy, but kept the items well stocked and they were very friendly and helpful, promptly clearing the tables and asking if guests needed anything.

The only hiccups I encountered during our stay came when on the way back to our room I stopped by the bar and ordered a double espresso, without asking the price. Since the espresso machine is right by the front desk, the front desk clerk made it for me and charged me. She rang up the charge as 2 single espressos at $2.50 each, which didn’t seem right. A double espresso is usually a bit more than a single, not double the price. When I brought it up she mentioned that the register didn’t have a code to ring up a double and that they had to be charged as two singles. In all honesty I think she may just not have known how to ring it up properly, but I wasn’t going to argue over a couple of bucks so I just drank my overpriced $5 + something double espresso and moved on to better things.

Check out:
During our stay, guests received a letter in their room (at least I assumed everyone did) actually encouraging them to check out late if possible, as they were expecting a large check out crowd on Sunday morning, which could overwhelm the valet drivers. We left at around 11am. At that point there were only about 2-3 more guests in the valet area, and our car came within 5 minutes.

Overall impression:
Given the location of this property, the great accommodations and the free breakfast, which was excellent, this hotel makes for a solid choice when visiting Austin. Being especially near the bar scene is very valuable as you don’t need to worry about drinking and driving. The valet parking fee is steep and I would suggest looking at other options in the area in advance, as it’s a homework we didn’t have the time to do. The fact that the hotel is a Category 4 is particularly valuable given that you can stay for free using the Chase Hyatt card annual free night certificate. We enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend this property if you’re in the area.

I'm only able to upload up to 10 pictures. For additional photos and full review, please visit our website.

Room Tip: High floor is a must. Ask for a quiet room, as high as possible to keep the crowd noise away.

What a great place to stay. 3rd and Congress, right in the middle of it all downtown. 3 blocks from 6th and the same distance the other way to Rainey St. Clean, large rooms. Fantastic free hot breakfast, Starbucks, and plenty of dining space. The hotels website is as cheap as any travel site. A great deal, great location, and easy in and out valet.

This hotel is newer, so very clean, not run down. Liked that it was near everything. Literally near everything. Staff was Very friendly, we checked out a night early b/c one of our party was ill, and they offered bottled waters, sprite for the road (thoughtful). Only thing that was annoying was valet. First, the garage has a sign that states full - But pretty sure that's b/c of valet. Heard the guy tell the other to "take it to the garage." Second, I have no issue for paying for valet, but heads up on how much it is.. $20 is kinda steep for 1 night.. Also, if people are loud in the hallway, you can hear it..
