Our stay at the Bravahouse was beautiful. The room was very spacious, clean, and quiet. We were greeted by a nice "enchanted evening" that included champagne, chocolate covered strawberries (delicious), and a decadent desert tray, then next morning, breakfast on the front porch was picturesque, people walking thier dogs, jogging... all as we sat there enjoying breakfast.
The Bravahouse is situated in a nice quiet neighborhood, so during the evening hours we had very nice walks. Then a 10 min stroll into the warehouse district at night.
I highly recommend Bravahouse over any other name brand hotel/motel.

Even on vacation being away from home can be hard but Brava House was so great we found ourselves at the end of a day of exploration wanting to return to our Brava 'home'. Our first night we were welcomed by the lovely cat, Sam, and the next morning we met Robin.

In each room there was a guide to restaurants and entertainment in the area that really helped get us started. And in the mornings Robin gave us tips about the up and coming locations in the city making us feel less like tourists and more like locals. The wireless internet helped in that regard as well. The one night we had trouble settling on a place for dinner, we just popped open our laptop and found a whole slew of places to check out.

I can't say enough about the location. Gorgeous neighborhood that was great for late evening walks and so close to the things we love. . . . . organic foods, independent shops, antiques, zilker park and the botanical gardens, and most importantly Amy's ice cream!

We stayed in 3 different rooms and loved them all. I especially loved the selection of books in each room. I put the one I brought away and enjoyed the samplings of diaries, dreams, and classics.

The back deck was our favorite. Being night owls it was great to have a space that we could hang out and talk late into the night and not worry about the other guests. (see photo)

All in all we had a great experience at the Brava House and would gladly return there for our next trip to Austin.

I stayed in the Fitzgerald suite at the Brava with my young daughter and her god mother. the B&B has some excellent qualities to recommend it, but also some problems. It's very close to being an excellent b&b, but not quite there. The problems are really in the details.

PROs: The location is fantastic. It is walking distance to 6th street, whole foods, and a great little park (which was really nice for my daughter). The neighborhood itself is charming and lovely for strolling. The B&B is a nice victorian with very high ceilings and big windows. The room was large and well furnished, with two large rooms and a single bathroom with a shower only. The room had a DVD player and was stocked with movies. The hosts were helpful and friendly, and the resident cat Sam was fun to play with. Breakfast was good, but not outstanding.

Cons: The room was not clean (and I'm not a clean freak). There was a great deal of dust and a lot of cobwebs (and dead bugs) in the corners. The bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly after our first day there (there was even a dead mosquito left on top of the soap dispenser...so obviously no one wiped the sink down). The linens were old and rather worn, mismatched, and faded. The towels were old, mismatched, and musty. The soap provided in the dispensers was yucky. Perhaps more important, the beds were not comfortable. The fold out couch was lumpy and had springs poking out (even more than one would expect) and the bed's mattress was exceptionally hard. The small sink with coffee maker was also dirty.

I enjoyed our stay at the Brava, but would probably not stay there again. It's unfortunate, because it would take very little effort to make this an exceptional b&b rather than a charming but shabby one.

This place does it right. I was on a 3-day business trip and was blown away by the Fitzgerald room. Classic Eastlake touches galore and great amenities. The location is perfect to be away from the noise and hustle of downtown, however you are not far from downtown at all. Robin is very nice and ever so helpful so don't worry about a thing. The key is waiting for you whenever you show up, like me at 11:00 PM. Breakfast on the front porch with the paper - great stuff.

the house: gorgeous.
the hostess: friendly but not too obtrusive.
the meals: light and well prepared
the coffee: dark & good
the suite: intimate, beautifully appointed and homey.

everything was lovely. even with 2 smokers in the room, we were happy it was a non-smoking room. lovely patio out back, off-street parking, bus stop 250 feet from the front door.

robin made our stay lovely by suggesting restaurants, taverns, activities, and even how to get to the airport for 50 cents. she wasn't meddling or overly engaging, but made herself very approachable.

the brava house is a casual, laid back & comfortable place to be.

My wife and I stayed at the Brava House b&b in Austin Texas for 3 nights. We knew we loved it as soon as we arrived, walking through the back yard with the gorgeous deck and the small, lovely fish pond - we couldn't ask for anything better, especially after looking for something different from your average, generic boring hotel - a concept we do not like at all. It felt like home, and falling in love with Austin definitely had a lot to do with our choice of where we stayed. We loved our room's layout and feel (the Van Gogh room) the bed was pretty comfortable and the shower had really nice water pressure. My wife is 7 months pregnant and comfort was very importat for us. Robin, the B&B owner, was simply wonderful - she made really great (tasty and nutritious) breakfasts with great selections, and which changed daily. We were eating them on the deck in the back or on the front porch. They were also very helpful with information about places to see and things to do. All of Robin's restaurant recommendations were just on the money. One of the things we really enjoyed doing was to walk around the neighborhood - it is such a wonderful, safe and inviting neighborhood that we kept strolling around every day when we came back from our travels around Austin, even very late at night. We will definitely stay at the Brava House again next time we are in Austin - we are true fans!
