Had a wonderful three-night stay with my wife. Casablanca room was spacious with a nice sofa and coffee table. Private bathroom was acceptable -- showerhead on the the traditional clawfoot rub was low for this 6-2 guy, but I just bent down to shampoo. Excellent weekend breakfasts! Nice patio/deck area in back for hanging out. Close to public transit to go to downtown or entertainment areas. Inn keepers were helpful and informative. Love the neighborhood.

We booked and stayed in the Van Gogh room for 3 nights. When we arrived we were greeted and given the run down on breakfast, parking, room location and such. There was a beautiful rose lying on the bed. The room was freezing cold. Austin had closed school the following day due to the weather. The heat in our room had not been turned on prior to our arrival. The room’s heat is provided by its own unit. It took a while for the room to warm up…… several hours. We left to go have dinner. Intentionally, we left the light on so that we would not be entering into a dark room when we returned from dinner. When we returned from dinner, we found that the light in our room had been turned off and the heat had been turned up. Luckily, there was an extra blanket in the armoire.

The towels in the bathroom…..smelled musty and we did not receive new washcloths the whole time we were there. I am not sure that we got new towels each day. They certainly did not smell clean.

Breakfast…….You had better make sure you show up! There are starving children the world. So says the sign on the door. The breakfast tacos were good. The tortillas were homemade. Nothing else about the breakfast was anything to write home about. The toast was already toasted so it was cold. Pancakes were cold. We skipped breakfast on Sunday.

The bed was very hard. I am still recovering from my shoulder and neck aches.
Robin and Mary were very nice hosts. However, for $555.00 our money could be spend better elsewhere. It is safe to say that will not be returning to the Brava House.

We strive to have our guests rooms ready upon their arrival, unfortunately the guest arrived over an hour earlier than the check in time they had indicated, we had just turned on the heat. Replacement towels are provided when requested if a guest does not turn them in we assume they are fine. Our tongue in cheek sign reminding guests to let us know if they will not be to breakfast is simply a light hearted reminder. Mattress preference hard or soft is a very personal choice, we often sleep in the rooms for that very reason, I happen to find that bed too soft....but have never had a guest complaint about the mattress. If the guest had let us know we would have provided a mattress topper.

My friend and I spent three nights here in January to run the half marathon. We had an excellent stay and absolutely loved how quaint the home and neighborhood were. Our room was ready when we arrived and we were met by Robin's (the owner) son, Nick who was amazing. He was friendly and super informative. We appreciated the book of trendy restaurants she made and especially the brochures and maps available to help navigate the city. The room was neat, clean, warm and absolutely delightful. the location was close to everything and the free parking was a plus. Breakfast was wonderful included eggs and bread, oatmeal and fruit and the dogs were one of our highlights! We were especially pleased that when notified we would be leaving before breakfast the day of the race, Nick brought us food in our room the night before!

Room Tip: The Fitzgerald room was clean, quiet and sunny.

Brava House is a delightful refuge off of 6th street. The area is historic and fun to wander around. The Casablanca room was bright and sunny with 4 poster bed and a comfy couch. Loved the old bathtub. It is just over a mile walk along 6th to the big area of music but there are lots of other places/restaurants close by. Breakfast on the weekend was quiche and yougurt and toast/bagels/fruit etc and on Monday was cereal/oatmeal and yougurt/fruit and toasts. Great coffee. More than we needed! Lovely hosts.

Upon check-in we found that our room had accidentally been given to another couple. This was very quickly corrected and we got upgraded to a suite for the same price. The suite was great and was downstairs facing the street. However, the suite's heating system whistled and until we got some earplugs from a neighborhood store, sleep was kept to a minimum. The neighborhood, great Victorian houses within walking distance, and quick access to downtown Austin could not be beat. Mary, Robin, and Nicholas were very pleasant, fun to talk to, and great sources of local information.

The best thing about Brava House is the location. The worse thing was a way below par breakfast of pancakes and yogurt. For $200 a night, I would have expected eggs, quiche, local sausage. But that being said, the location is the charm of Brava House, in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Austin. The house itself is charming and the rooms are very large and well appointed. Also, interesting to have house quests in pjs and bed hair walking around at breakfast. Only in Austin!

We are so glad you experienced what we feel makes our B&B unique and totally Austin. We wish you had enjoyed our breakfast more. After reading the review we contacted the guest wondering if she realized that our breakfast weekdays is continental, in keeping with a continental we served in addition to the homemade buttermilk pancakes, a variety of breads, yogurt parfaits, homemade granola, fresh fruit, steel cut oats, OJ and coffee. We welcomed her to join us on the weekends where in fact we serve breakfast tacos, quiches, waffles, migas and host of other wonderful breakfast items.
