“So fun!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

The Spoke is a total dive bar and absolutely a must-do in Austin. The music is good, the staff is quirky and the people watching is unbeatable. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because seating is very limited. But if you're willing to get friendly, you can share a table and meet new people.

“Yee-ha!”

If you're looking for a good Texas honkey tonk, look no further! For the best experience show up for their free dance lessons before the band goes on; it's great fun for everyone!

“Two beers and the two step!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Broken Spoke is in fact a "hole in the wall" dance hall - but an awesome one that can not be duplicated! From the wood floors that have probably enjoyed more beer than anyone could imagine, to the owners on-site, the entire experience was simply enjoyable. Dance lessons - that are fun - Wed-Sat around 8:30p. I took my Mom and will be back with virtually every guest that I can drag there!

“I'm missing something...”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Before I visited Austin a friend told me I needed to go to the Broken Spoke. From a "historical" ponit of view it was a very interesting place seeing all of the stars who have played there in the quasi-museum. Otherwise I'm not quite sure what the attraction is, it's kind of like an old communnity hall, simple tables to sit at and hard chairs to sit on, grey folding types. As well there are only two servers for the entire place, getting a drink is very difficult and clearing your tab at the end of the night almost impossible.
I get that this is not a "hobby" for ownership but having a few more servers wouldn't hurt the bottom line that much and a "refresh" of the tables and chairs woundn't hurt the nostalgic feel, they have lots of room there. One thing we did like was the excellent band that played that evening although the dance floor is small (for number of people in the main room) so that was quite an adventure. I do hate to throw Broken Spoke under the bus because it has a lot going for it, ownership just needs to remember that customer service/comfort is important as well as a visit to a real honky tonk.
