Hampton Inn & Suites Austin Downtown
Ranked #29 of 203 Hotels in Austin

We come to Austin on business several times a year and have stayed at several of the downtown hotels. I feel that this is the best hotel for the dollar. It is located in easy walking distance of the convention center (2 minutes), the 6th street entertainment district (5 minutes), the bat bridge (less than 10 minutes) and the rest of downtown,

We have always found the staff to be extremely helpful and the free breakfast is more than adequate with assorted cereals, muffins, bagels, fruit, coffee, teas and juices. The real treat is that they have a happy hour in the late afternoons with comlimentary wine and beer as well as a little bit of finger food.

The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds are comfortable. The roof top pool and gym are definitely on the small side but they do the job. Complimentary wireless internet is also a plus when you are traveling on business.

The crepe cafe which is located just outside the main entrance has the best crepes that I have ever had!

A great hotel near 6th street and right across the street from PF Changs and other great resturants in the area. Everything within walking distance. If you do have a car though there is a parking fee to be at the hotel, but not as pricy as other hotels. Hotel staff very friendly and ready to help with any questions you may have. If you call for anthing to be brought to your room it is done promptly. You also get a fullnFREE warm breakfast in the morning on the second floor with a nice area to sit and have a great meal before you head out for the day.

We needed a place to sleep for two nights--nothing fancy. The hotel is nice enough, but when a wake-up call we didn't request woke us at 5:30am, I was annoyed. No apology from the desk, they just told me that they'd make sure it was disabled for the next night.
The last morning we got breakfast and returned to the room to find that our key cards had been disabled hours ahead of schedule. We left for the airport late, first because we had to wait to get them reprogrammed so we could get our belongings, and then because when we tried to return the cards to check out there was no one but confused patrons standing at the front desk. Plenty of other hotels in that neighborhood!!!

This hotel really failed to “wow” me, but it gets the job done for the busy road warrior.

A few pros:
• Surprisingly quiet, despite the fact that I overheard the desk clerk telling another guest the hotel was full the nights of my stay
• My third floor room had a very spacious bath
• The bedding is very comfortable, complete with feather pillows and down comforter
• The entry is stylish and inviting; the air conditioning was nice and cool and the décor handsome and sophisticated in a central Texas fashion

A few cons:
• The hotel has only three elevators for a 16 story facility, meaning lengthy waits during high traffic times
• The bath towels are rough and harsh, in line with the “John Wayne toilet paper” provided
• In-room hotel coffee is never “the greatest,” but this coffee is especially bad. Even after several potsm the drink reminded me merely of coffee-flavored water

Now the ultimate negative and the one that will prevent me from returning to this hotel in the future: The hotel parking garage is valet only, and this privilege comes at a hefty rate of $23.00 per night. Taking a cab to and from the hotel, of course, eliminates this concern, but when I am in Austin for business, I simply need a car to get to/from meetings and client/colleague meals, no ifs, ands or buts. As a result of having to expense nearly $50 simply for parking my rental car for two nights, I will need to continue looking elsewhere for Austin lodging.

This Hampton has dated rooms that need repairs. Housekeeping had not stocked the room. Is within walking distance of downtown attractions but could use some attention. Mold in the shower.

Stayed here for a 3-day weekend. Great value (booked through hotels.com) and excellent location about 3 blocks south of 6th street where most of the night time people watching/drinking fun but also close to the more mellow evening destinations. Yet still far enough from 6th street to avoid the noise. Stayed in the suite which was very spacious and great for relaxing having friends that we were traveling with come over for drinks before heading out on the town. Bathroom was a small and old with visible chips/scratches on the tub so below par here. Breakfast was serviceable and more than I expected. It's a continental breakfast which usually means fruit and danishes with coffee but the breakfast included several hot items (e.g. sausage patties, links, potatoes and/or make your own waffle station) so definitely above expectations. No kitchen at this hotel so room service is primarily from the restaurants that surround the hotel (e.g. PF Chang's). Nothing fancy about the pool, shallow long and narrow but definitely a nice little escape from the heat in the middle of the day. Hotel staff was very friendly and allowed us to keep our bikes in the hotel closet. Parking is pricey and compulsory with the hotel as it is with most centrally located hotels. There are some surface lots around the hotel that are cheaper but you take your risk as this town has a pretty lively night life and you never know...

I had never stayed with this brand before, and for such an affordable room rate, I wasn't expecting to be wowed. But, wow! Loved the convenient location, great service, and nice free breakfast. Room was pretty clean, though the carpet felt a little grimy and I noticed some stains on the comforter. But really nothing that would keep me from rating this hotel as a 4, a rating heavily based on the great value this property provided.
