“If the owner isn't home, you can't view it well, and its a wasted trip.”
Review of Cathedral of Junk

Cathedral of Junk
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We stopped by on a weekday morning, and a sign said that the owner was away until noon. It was a wasted trip as far as I was concerned. We got to take some pictures, with difficulty as access was blocked. The neighbor to their right has a neat yard, and I feel sorry for them.

Found the house easily enough but totally missed the point. Located in a neighborhood there was no signage and it was totally unclear what to do. We drove by twice and left. Someone was working out front but gave no indication we were welcome to stop and come into the yard.

The front looked like a total dump. Perhaps the backyard would have been better but really we just didn't get it.

This is located in an average neighborhood in Austin. Every step I took from the curb to the backyard of this house I was hoping this "attraction" would become more artistic or interesting, but it only disappointed.

I was greeted by the owner, who is welcoming, but was rather short on explanation of why this junk pile is in his backyard or how he even got the idea. I believe he is not sure himself. He was sure to point out the "donation" box, however.

It is literally a pile of junk in someone's backyard. The poor neighbors. Maybe if you paint the junk or do something to make the junk beautiful this would be worth putting on TripAdvisor.

If you are the type that likes to seek out the unusual that a city has to offer, you must see this. In a residential neighborhood (can't help but wonder how the neighbors feel) the back yard of this home is a meca to all things trash. Artistically crafted structure of junk, that you simply need to spend some time and wander through, around, over, into, and about. You will recognize memories from your childhood, you will be in awe at the collections, you will wonder why. The artist met us at the gate, introduced his art and his dog, and let us roam. A cash box for donations, though no pressure to do so. A wonderfully weird sidenote to our Austin trip!

Since 1988 Vince has been adding JUNK to his back yard. It is now a gigantic structure with walk thrus, stairs to on high, and gardens of like "junk" to bring back memories of things you use to own and threw away long ago ...or maybe yesterday! Ski's, electroics, car part, appliances, more than I can mention or you can image ... If you like the Weird and Off beat this is a MUST SEE! ... In a residential neighborhood. Usually not open till Noon. check their facebook page for a phone number to call to get that day's hours. If you are anyway near South Austin consider this for a hour spent in utter amasment. OK for Kids. Park on street, but NOT in front of dirves or mailboxes! Free - Donations accepted if so inclined. I was!
