“Tasty BBQ”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

After being turned away from Franklin Barbecue, we got a recommendation for Stiles Switch BBQ and Brew. It was a great call. I had the brisket, spicy sausage, coleslaw and mac & cheese- all with the slightly-spicy BBQ sauce. It was absolutely delicious... we took seconds home for later!

“Good solid BBQ without the hassle of Franklins”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

This place is fairly new and in an old N. Austin neighborhood, in face, in the first shopping center, the Violet Crown, that was ever built in Austin. The Que there is good, smokey, moist with a very nice smoke ring. I had the chopped which was a good mix of brisket that was charred and some not charred. The sandwich was a very healthy size. The wife had the brisket plate with sides. Although, she thought the brisket quite good the beans, we both had, were weird tasting seemingly very heavy on a garlic flavor and too salty. That was disappointing because I always go for pintos and hate to see them under or over seasoned. I had a glass of Woodchuck cider. All in all a good place to go eat for local BBQ.

Hint: this place is just barely 0.3 of a mile south of the Crestview Metrorail on N. Lamar. If you are downtown catch it and easily walk to this place. That part of town and very commercial and old and might look shakey but it is solid safe in the daytime and probably at night also. About a half mile south of the station on N. Lamar also is the Yellow Rose, a topless place , FYI. I don't advise eating there.

Also about 40 feet from the Crestview station, right across the parking lot is a Cooperative brewery called Blackstone. This one of my sons favorite places to get their own brew of beer and burgers. What is also distinctive about this place is they pay the waitstaff well and request no tipping. FWIW, it is popular with lesbians also, in case you are in town and want to know.

“Excellent BBQ”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

I was in Austin, TX for a conference. A friend that lives locally took a few of us over to Stiles for lunch. The BBQ is awesome, some of the best I've had in TX. I usually visit Austin a couple times a year. I will definately be returning.

“Stiles Switch...5 stars!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Outstanding BBQ spot in Austin! The Beef Ribs are a must as well as the sausage. They have 3 types of sausage that are all equally impressive. The brisket melts in your mouth and they have a great selection of beers to wash it all down with. The spot itself is really great...its in the historic Violet Crown Shopping Center in Austin ...also the site of the filming of Dazed and Confused so its fun to check out the nostalgia of the early 90s cult classic. Love Austin Texas and this spot sums up what Central Texas BBQ is all about. ..save room for the Chocolate Banana Pudding too.

“Great BBQ, Service Not So Much”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

The BBQ was excellent. Beef and Sausage were equally as good. Sides of Mac & Cheese and Beans were also very good. Was tempted by the Banana-Chocolate Pudding, but my waistline dictated I say "No". Decent beer selection to go with the food. Atmosphere was very much "Texas BBQ Joint". My only complaint was the lack of service. As a first timer I was expecting a little guidance or suggestion from the staff. Despite serious hesitation at the counter and a couple of prodding questions, got very little in response. Paid the tab and did not get as much as a "cutlery and napkins are over there", or even a "thank you". Maybe it was a bad day, as it was pouring outside and the crowd was a little light. Regardless, as a newer business I would expect a positive greeting and pride in the food. Will definitely give it another chance and hope to find some of that Texas hospitality one would expect at a "BBQ Joint".
