My beautiful wife and I met another couple at G'Raj Majal for an early dinner before taking in a play. It's BYOB, so we brought a bottle wine to share with dinner. The place is a converted auto repair garage with a series of tents decorated like what you would see in a middle-eastern movie. Gravel floor, a variety of table types, typical Austin outdoor ambiance. The menu is extensive, with a great variety. The prices are very reasonable for downtown Austin. Flavors were fresh, well prepared, and hot when served. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive. If you are a visitor to the Austin area and you want what Austin feels like, here's the place. Parking stinks, but that's Austin, sorry. Great experience.

My wife, my daughter, and I ate here in February, 2013, and we all loved it. The food and service were excellent, the prices were quite reasonable, all the ingredients were fresh, and all the employees were friendly. I think the owner served us and he was most accommodating. We loved the atmosphere of the place, although I can imagine at times it would be too hot or too cold to eat outside. Not the night we were there, however, and we had a great experience. Next time we're in Austin, we're definitely going again.

I apologize in advance for the hyperbole of the title, but the G'raj Mahal far exceeded our wildest expectations. We went to the G'raj for supper on a chilly December night after a day of Austin antics. Finding it was a bit tricky for a first time, but it was a funky neighbourhood of little bars and restaurants. Outside had a really cool decoration of a texas rattle snake made out of bikes, lights, and recycled pop bottles.

The food at the G'raj warmed us to the bone on the chilly December night. We started with some delicious pakoras that came out almost instantly. The mango lassy tasted very fresh. The dahl and curries we had for super were piping hot! We had a taste of the indian beignets - they were even better the next day! Service was fast and efficient, and the food was divine. Extra kudos for offering so many vegetarian options. Paneer was phenomenal.

We liked it so much we went back the second night with our friends. They had some meat options, and we continued to try other vegetarian options (the aloo, other paneer dishes, raita). All dishes were a hit!

P.s. the plain naan is super tasty, drizzled with melted butter or ghee. Yum!

We'll definitely be back!

This was my second trip to G'Raj Mahal in 3+ years, and the food was great once again! Fresh ingredients, rich curries, delicious garlic naan...the list goes on and on.

I am disappointed that they are still using paper plates an plastic utensils :( It seems to go against the Austin green mentality considering everything else about them is true to Austin's unique culture.

There is typically a wait - we waited 40 minutes on a Friday at 7:30, BUT they will take your mobile number so you can walk to one of the nearby bars/venues on Rainey Street and enjoy music and/or drinks - this makes the wait easier to do!

Side note: the whole Rainey Street area is great for young professionals in their late 20's and beyond - the college crowds of 6th Street have not fully infiltrated this area quite yet (though there are some stragglers on. Friday or Saturday night). The vibe is energetic but casual - you'll see ladies in high heels and converse - it's a nice mix of folks coming together for a good time porch-hopping (you'll understand once you go).

Note: G'Raj Mahal is BYOB.

The only reasons for not giving them 5 stars across the board is due to the plastic and paper ware and what I consider high prices for trailer food, despite how good it is. You will pay typical Indian restaurant dinner prices to sit and eat in an outdoor tent area and use plastic knives. But again, the food is great and the Rainey Street area as a whole is one of Austin's newer and funkier places to be!

Very nice food! Best Indian food I have eaten in a restaurant. Freshly made and not too greasy or hot!
