We recently visited the museum with our 13 & 10 year olds. This is a relatively new museum conveniently located close to the State Capitorl and the UT campus. We thought it had very nice exhibits presented in an up-to-date way. It is a great way to explore Texas history and a popular field trip destination for school groups. There are two theaters available for a separate admission fee , an Imax theater which we did not visit and another theater that offered a choice of 2 films, one on extreme Texas weather and the other on Texas history. We saw the film on Texas history which lasted about 20 minutes and found that it included some special affects and "disney" like touches that are engaging for kids. Some of the affects were loud and could be a little frightening to very young children. We had a great visit!

Eight family members visited the current exhibit of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum which was featuring the musical influences of so many Texans over the past century. We spent several hours hearing, seeing and absorbing the thoughts, words, and cultural influences of Willie Nelson, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holley, and many, many more of the Texas born musical artists and icons our great state has shared with the world. Even the youngest members of the family were interested in hearing the songs and seeing the personal items displayed....costumes, musical instruments and so much more.

this museum is well worth the stop. It gives a very good history of Texas. We happened to stop in on a "free museum" day. bonus

This museum offers an excellent presentation of modern Texas history, covering the last 300 years or so. The permanent exhibits are very well done covering the Indians, the oil business, ranching, and other topics. It covers the big picture as well as information about daily life of people involved. In addition there is always at least one temporary exhibit on some specific topic of interest. The gift shop offers a multitude of books and Texas-made products. Even the cafe is good for soups and sandwiches. Parking is underground so it is both convenient and cool.

I admit I love history, but wow this place has a lot of it! Be prepared to pick and choose where you want to spend your time and make sure you have your little ones in tow. We took in the Texas show and the theatre did scare my son a bit. He was very small at the time. But when we went recently, we went to the IMAX. It was absolutely amazing. I love this place because of the history. I'm hoping to go back very soon.
