Travelling from overseas it is rare to find a place like Driskill Grill, where food, ambience, service and that extra ingredient 'je ne sais quoi' all combine to provide the ultimate dining experience.

Arrived without a reservation, after a complete let down at the Sheraton round the corner, and were told we could wait at the bar, with a personal introduction from the maitre d' to the cocktail tender. Great service and we were kept informed as to the table status. Thanks, Nathan!

On seating, we got a full intro to the menu and wine list. We were told there was a large group in, which would slow service and were given free seafood bisque to fill in time!

Wait service was attentive and knowledgable. It is rare to be able to discuss the food and wine in such depth with people who know and care about their product and how it is offered.

Food was more than excellent! The amuse bouche begged to be included somewhere in the cocktail menu, the bisque was to die for, the quail balanced perfectly with a goat cheese orzo and creamed arugula, and the filet mignon was melt in the mouth. Matched off with a wine where the sommelier knew exactly what he was talking about and delivered a real treat. Thanks, Scott!

This place is special, and everyone should take dinner here at least once in their lives. It is incredibly good value for a high end dining experience.

We arrived late on a Friday night - three of us - no reservation and were promptly seated at a nice table in this very grand old Texas institution in Austin. Excellent efficient and knowledgeable service (our English waiter and two Sommeliers were very fine). A half bottle of good champagne, lovely Chablis with Oysters, good Volnay and very fine Tokay and Port accompanied the wonderfully priced three course (and one 5 course) tasting menus. Delicious all round - highly recommended.

We had a wonderful dinner at Driskill Grill. Very attentive service from Scott and Chase. Food was excellent. We had the beet salad and caesar salads to start and then one of us had the lamb and the other had the Wagyu steak. Finished with the semi-fredo for dessert Everything was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Chef Jonathan Gelman's gentle joyful menus, grace and affection for his work and guests, the romance of the intimate dining room, the old Cattleman's bar at the dining entrance, and the history of the beloved Driskill lend to the most romantic and sentimental of all Austin's dining venues for a quiet dinner or a special occasion. I have dined there for a decade. No question, Austin's best.
