“Fun bar chefs made the night”
Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

We sat at the sushi bar in front of two gentlemen (whose names escape me (so sorry), one was from California working there for 1.5 years and the other from Baton Rouge working there for about 6 months) and they were fantastic. We ordered the chefs tasting and had two options: we could get the preset tasting or have our chef create one for us. We opted for the latter and we made the right decision. He asked us about what we liked what we didn't and created a menu right in front of us. He coursed it with the food in mind and throughout the meal made changes to his original menu based on what our reactions were. He was also conscious of telling us in what order to eat which was great. The two guys in Front of us were fun and personable, interesting and conversational. We laughed with them and they gave us sushi and dessert they really wanted us to try in addition to our tasting. Overall they really made the night. Our bar server, a nice young woman (Kathy?) was super attentive, she realized we were enjoying the sushi chefs and so she non intrusive as a result. We gathered she'd be interactive if we weren't engaged with the chefs. She was a great addition to the night. Best thing to do is sit at the bar and let them pick for you. The fish was amazing and kitchen food was excellent. Everything was so creative and flavorful. Wonderful experience.

“As good as advertised”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Went to this restaurant because of the tripadvisor reviews and totally loved it. The waiter was absolutely fantastic(Bobby). He took the time to make sure we understood the options and help us build a great meal. The food was fantastic as well. Only downside of this location if you are staying downtown it is a 20 min ride.

“Go straight to dessert”
Reviewed June 6, 2013 via mobile

This is not your grandmother's sushi. Quite over the top with the menu, though a good place to say you have been. I would go back, sit outside in the quiet (quite the bustle inside) and have the tobacco cream dessert, a melange of textures and favors that defy description.

“highly recommended”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Amazing food and drink--definitely worth the price. Excellent flavor, lovely presentation, unexpectedly delicious flavor combinations (e.g. kalamata olive gelato with almonds, lemon sauce, and chocolate). Wish I could eat here regularly. One of the clear gastronomic highlights of a cross-country trip.

“Uchi's fabulous sibling is great for Happy Hour”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Uchiko is my favorite restaurant in Austin. It's a go to place not only for special occasions; but also a fun restaurant for last minute Happy Hour - or "Sake Social" as they call it. The prices for dishes on the HH menu are VERY reasonable. It's a good opportunity to try some new things as you really can't go wrong with any of the selections. That's how we tried the brussel sprouts - which we ordered a second order of - $3 on the HH menu! Not your momma's brussel sprouts!! The "Yokai Berry" was our next favorite. Just order it - $6 on the HH menu!! If you are seated in the main dining room, you order from the main menu which is more expensive, but also more generously portioned. Either way, you will love this place!! It never fails to impress us or anyone we take there!!
