My wife and I recently spent three nights in Austin for a friend's wedding. We had heard about this restaurant prior to our trip, and made sure to set aside an evening to dine here. Boy are we glad we did. It ended up being the highlight of our trip (aside from watching our friends join together in marriage, of course).
They have an excellent wine list that's sure to please everyone. We did the tasting menu and ended up getting around seven or eight courses. They are extremely flexible with the tasting menu, which is very nice. We basically left everything in the hands of our waiter and he did an excellent job selecting courses that we would love. We got a little bit of everything so we left feeling like we'd gotten a pretty comprehensive view of what the restaurant has to offer. Everything we had was excellent--incredible flavors and delightful presentation.
The service was fantastic as well. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. He really went out of his way to make sure our evening at Uchicko was special.
The decor is very nice. Warm and inviting. The restaurant was crowded but there was still a nice, intimate feel. It's classy without being the least bit pretentious.
Make sure you get the fried ice cream for dessert! I cannot say enough about it and have been thinking about it ever since. If I ever get back to Austin I will return to Uchiko just for that.
All in all a great experience. You will leave with a signficantly lighter wallet, but it's well worth it.
