Franklin's has a reputation. They have been all over TV shows. There is plenty of hype. There was quite a line and we showed up at noon.(what were we thinking?) Our spot in line was about 10 people behind the "last man standing" (last person guaranteed food), but we elected to wait. Rudy's would still be there if we did not get anything. We waited for one hour before we got to order. Brisket, pulled pork, beans, ribs, sausage were part of our order. We missed out on the turkey. Aaron Franklin himself was there cuttin and greetin everyone. I can see how some folks might be put out by the wait or the limited hours, but that is how it is. It was not a surprise to wait. I witnessed some extraordinary service by Aaron and crew. We met several interesting people in line.
Bottom line is that the experience was great. My buddy would not wait in line for an hour again, but I would. Beer was available as you wait once you get inside. I had a nice Thirsty Planet IPA (no Thirsty Goat). The brisket was awesome. The Beans were really good. The pulled pork would give anyone in Memphis a run for their money. The ribs were great. The sausage was not very good, but that did not dampen the lunch. (not like you go away hungry).

If you want lunch at noon, better get there by 9 am...but now that you've been warned, just kick back and consider the long line part of this restaurant's ambiance! Bring your lawn chairs, a cooler, and a deck of cards and play a little poker while you wait. You'll find the regulars here most friendly, and you're all there for the same reason...THE BEST BBQ YOU'LL EVER PUT IN YOUR MOUTH!
Every so often a waitress will come around with beers and soft drinks for the patient BBQ lovers in line, and they'll warn you if the brisket or ribs are running low so you won't be disappointed when you finally get to the counter to order. And when it's gone, they're done for the day. So set aside some time and pack your patience...you won't be sorry!

I'm not exaggerating in the title of his review. This is by far the best BBQ I have EVER had! GET IN LINE early - it opens at 11 am - if you get there past 9 am your pretty much guaranteed scraps. Bring some lawn chairs and a cooler with some beer and enjoy the experience. The ribs and brisket are out of this world. Seriously, you can't go to Austin and not go to Franklin. Service is nice friendly and great value for the massive portions you get. Would go back in a heart beat.

i've only been here twice: once for a fund-raiser and a second time for lunch. the brisket might be the best in town. the ribs are good. the salads are just fine and given the fact that franklin's is in a part of town that just a few years ago was frequented by only the most intrepid of hipsters, i say hurrah for franklin's. but i ain't gonna stand in line for forever to get food and then scope out a place to eat it because there aren't enough tables or because people aren't considerate enough to vacate a table after they've finished eating and closed their tabs. i've seen people get take out and then eat using the hood of a car as a table. the one time friends and i got in, we went at 10:30 in the morning. this is insane, even for truly outstanding brisket. ribs and sausage aren't bad either. having said that, it is a cultural/anthropological/social experience to be part of that line. conversations strike up (usually) in a neighborly way. forgot something? no worries, i'll hold your spot; gotta hit the rest room? the same courtesy applies. hey, it's austin. it's weird.

Stood in drizzling rain and cold for two hours for the pleasure of indulging in the absolute best brisket I've ever eaten. Succulent and flavorful, just the way I like my brisket. I'll definitely return in the future.
