This place is "hidden" at Camp Mabry (home of Texas National Guard and Navy/Marine Corp Reserves), so many folks do not know about it. If is FREE, and has many very interesting exhibits dating from Texas Independence to Iraq... New exhibits are added every year.

We highly recommend this little hidden gem in the open! It is FULL of amazing Texas and historical information! It may not look like much but there is a lot to be seen. There are all kinds of rooms with rich information. The fact that the museum is free makes it an added bonus! We definitely recommend spending some time here!

Saw Camp Mabry as we were driving down the highway. Decided to investigate it. Had to show photo ids to enter the national guard base of all adults. The museum is free admission. Found the museum filled with a lot of different military's vehicles. Also special rooms dedicated to different wars such as WW 1 and 2 and Vietnam and Korea. They are working on an exhibit for Civil War and Revolutionary War, which will be completed in Sept. The museum did have a little gift shop. We wish that we could have spent more time there. There is a lot to see. On the outside are even more tanks and other military vehicles to see. It is worth seeing and very informational.

First of all, there is a lot to see on the outside before one enters this museum. There are aircraft, both rotary and fixed wing, tanks, artillery pieces, vehicles, and heavy equipment. One can walk among this equipment and take photos from all angles. Inside of the museum is more military equipment including aircraft, helicopters, tanks, anti-aircraft guns, artillery pieces, and other equipment. This equipment is from several countries including Germany, France, and the Soviet Union as well as the U.S.. There are machine guns, rifles, revolvers, and pistols dating from the 19th century to the present. All of America's wars are covered in this museum. There is one area about the Texas Revolution and this section contains cannon and other firearms from that period. Another section is dedicated to WWI and WWII while another section contains insignias, equipment, and photos about Germany in WWII. There is an area about the Air National Guard that contains various aircraft equipment. Another section contains information about the POWs of the Japanese in Southeast Asia. Located throughout the museum are life size figures of soldiers and horses. There is so much to see in this museum that one could spend a day here. It's almost unbelievable that there is no charge to tour this great museum but they do accept donations.
