If you get towards the back of this place you will have a wonderful creek view. Our waiter John served up an extra heap of enthusiasm. The sausage stuffed porked medallions rocked. The menu is not for the faint of heart, as the best selections are deep fried. It's a ways from the city but convenient if you stay at Barton Creek.

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews we'd read on this site. The food was absolutely delicious. My ribeye was cooked to perfection and practically fork tender. Even better than the food (if that's possible) was the service. Our waiter was the best. He took the time to call us a cab, checked on us while we were waiting and then called the cab company again to make sure they were on their way. It's a little ways out of town, but we're so glad we took the time to eat there.

We went for lunch and the price was high. The food was good but nothing amazing. Service was good. I would not bring company here due to the price and the small plate size.

We decided to go to Jack Allen's given Trip Advisor's ranking and its location near where we were staying. From the outside the place looks unpretentious, and the decor inside is simple yet pleasing. We therefore were even more blown away by the quality of the food and service here. There were too many things on the menu that we wanted to try, so we split two appetizers, a salad, and one entree. We didn't expect the portions to be so generous, so be prepared when you order. Almost all of the ingredients are sourced from a 50 mile radius, so freshness rules. This was especially evidenced in the chicken in our salad, some of the best that I've ever tasted. We opted to try the ruby trout, as this is unknown where we each live, and we were not disappointed by its delicacy as well as the unusual presentation over spinach on top of rice with corn and topped by an apple pecan relish. The only less than stellar thing that we tried was a blonde brownie a la mode that was actually a pie instead of the described cookie which proved to be a bit too sweet. We were then surprised by the bill as the cost was so relatively inexpensive (especially with an appetizer being half price due to happy hour). This is a must place to dine when in the area!

We were looking for a good restaurant that was not on crowded S. Congress street and Jack Allen's came up. We tried it and were pleasantly surprised with the upscale decor, decent prices and excellent food and service. I had the chorizo stuffed pork medallions that was excellent and our entire family of 5 thought this place is one of the best we have visited. Also, Jack Allen's uses mostly local food items (produce, meat etc...).
