Starving after walking all over South Congress, stumbled into Gueros. Funky, fun decor with metal bats hanging on front column . They were very busy and VERY efficient, we only had a short wait for seating and the waitress came immediately. This would be a very good family/kid restaurant. Chips are made fresh and super light & not greasy + three kinds of salsa. There's a salsa bar if you need more. The tortilla soup comes in two sizes and the small is perfect for lunch, not a cup but about a cereal bowl size with avocado chunks & we added the chicken which had great seasoning. Also had the 3 tamale plate. All that + 2 beers and the total bill was $22 inc. tax. Really good.

Good Tex-Mex cuisine, big portions, friendly service. Can be quite crowded, but wait in the bar is worth it.

Stopped in for a quick bite and to get away from the SXSW crowds. I actually loved this place. I wish there was like it in LA. Casual. Hand made tortillas. Cheap. Good service. The al pastor tacos were really good. The picadillo was nice too. I loved their Margarita. The queso and chips was the only misstep. If am ever in Austin again, I will make the trip back to Guero's.

From the authentic 50sTexas decor to the delicious variety of food( breakfast and tex mex) to the clientele, ( Kinky Friedman was there when we were) this is true Texas flavor. Even the SXSW crowds did not put a damper on this meal.

Resting on their laurels. One of those unfortun ate restaurants that is SO big, and in such a sweet location that they'll be slammed all the time. The only problem is that the food isn't that good to begin with. It isn't bad, but it isn't great. Exactly what you would expect from a gigantic restaurant smack in the middle of a tourist trap street like SoCo. Austin has so much better to offer, if you want good TexMex in Austin, please see some of my other reviews. As a local, it pains me that this place is so popular while serving such mediocre food.
