“Very classy dining, great food”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

We enjoyed our visit to Perry's. I've visited their San Antonio location, as well, and the food was very consistent in terms of quality. The Austin location has SA beat on decor & location - the imposing wine wall, nice lounge area, and great downtown location trump Perry's in SA, which is located in a shopping center. All apps & entrees were excellently prepared & flavorful - they weren't the best I've ever had, but they were definitely above average: tuna tartare, beef carpaccio, pecan-crusted snapper, and the Filet Perry. Service was excellent, and wait staff was well-informed. There was great little jazz band over in the lounge, nice low light. Non-steak entrees are probably in the $35 range, steaks are more. We probably spent $250 on two appetizer, two entrees, two desserts, a bottle of wine & couple of cocktails. Overall, it was a lovely experience & I'd definitely go back. Perry's is appropriate for business, friends & couples. I would take a well-behaved child here who is accustomed to upscale locations. I would leave the others at home with a sitter.

“Great place and food”

First of all the service is very good, the waiters are attentive, and the atmosphere is great. This is a great place to have a steak. The crabcakes are very good, the cowboy ribeye is excellent, the salads are good. In other words is a great place to have a great meal and a good time.

“Perry's PorkchopHouse & Grille”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Signature dish for this place is their gigantic Porkchop. Do not attempt to eat this alone unless you plan on passing on their fantastic caesar salad (traditionally made) and incredible sides. Everything from the bread to the wine selection was top notch. The piano player in the front lounge created a great ambiance.

“There has to be something better in Austin”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

Went on the recommendation of many TripAdvisor reviews. Well, couldn't have been more disappointed. I knew we were in for trouble when the waiter immediately starting hitting us up to buy the seafood tower. Then he asked me if we wanted to have the "famous" collection of Perry's appetizers. I told him no, that we would each order individual appetizers. Well, he went down the table to someone else, and without me knowing asked the same question and before I knew it, there were two piles of appetizers on the table. And if this is what they're famous for, then that says alot. Oily calamari, sausage and deep fried asparagus.

When it came to steaks, the waiter did a big sales job on the bone in steaks. That's code for $20 more for the same bone-out steak. At this type of restaurant without a bone shouldn't be code for flavorless. We asked about the "famous" pork chop and was told not to bother. We took that once again as the waiter not wanting to reduce the per person bill. (the pork chop is $20 or so less than the steaks). However, this was the "famous" pork chop, and so three at our table ordered. It was a good choice - I will say it was huge an enough for two people.

The appetizers did not come out with our entrees, but about 15 minutes after. By that time we had completely finished our entrees. The appetizers just sat there. Apology from the waiter doesn't cut it.

The waiter took the reins to help us select wine. Both the white and the red he selected were disappointing by all of those who drank it. We had to switch to others. And, when we asked for suggestions, his fingers immediately pointed on the menu to the $135 - $140 bottles. Bad form.

There is really no reason to go back. And from my perspective, no reason for you to even go in the first place. My guess is there are better places for a steak, much less pomp and circumstance and waiters who have a clue.
