“Kimber Modern Is Austin's Best Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2011

I'd been on the road nearly a week for business and traveled to Austin for a weekend getaway with my wife. After staying in a somewhat dumpy place for work, I wanted to stay somewhere new & special, which made Kimber Modern an obvious choice. What we hadn't counted on was the warmth of the space & sweetness of the staff. So many modern structures are cold and unfeeling. Not so with the Kimber. It's a beautiful and inviting hotel with all the small touches one hopes for but rarely gets. Incredible coffee, delicious continental breakfast with loads of fresh fruit, wonderful soaps/shampoos in the bathrooms, in-room speakers with an iPod connection, free WiFi, free wine/cheese/beer during happy hour, a computer & printer in the common room, very comfortable bed, etc. The White Suite is absolutely splendid and the multi-level deck with trees & hammocks is like a grownup treehouse. The staff (including eponymous owner) were very courteous, friendly and helpful. I felt like we've been friends for years. I will stay here again and again on subsequent trips and hope to book the whole place for future television & film productions. Google the NY Times article. Kimber Modern is a genuine gem!

The White Suite was extremely attractive and very comfortable. The staff members I interacted with were helpful and accommodating. The common areas were pretty and inviting. The location was ideal.

We were excited about visiting Austin and staying at this "hotel". We wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast and conducted an online search to find one in the heart of Austin. We met the hostess and she was very nice. Upon our arrival we loved the location and the style of our room. Unfortunately, our room was facing Circle St. and the noise from the clubs kept my husband up most of the night. Much to our dismay, we awakened to find that the breakfast buffet was just boiled eggs, chopped fruit salad, and bagels, and OJ, coffee. We had to leave and spend additional money that we had not planned to spend to get a decent breakfast. I see now why they get credit card payment before you get there. It would have been just as good to stay at a hotel.

Style, location, luxury, friendly staff--Kimber Modern has it all. Walk up the stairs through the small interior bamboo garden and you'll immediately know that this is a hotel unlike any other in Austin. At the top of the stairs, you find yourself on the beautiful deck, nestled into Texas Live Oaks. Though the South Congress location offers some of the best of Austin's bars, restaurants, shopping, and live music, be sure to make it back for happy hour. Free wine, beer, and snacks on that beautiful tree-top terrace. Complete with stylish (and comfortable) modern furniture, art by local Austin artists, and fine bath products, the rooms offer more than just a place to sleep off those Austin good times. The generous healthy breakfast and gourmet coffee/espresso are so good and the common areas so meditative that you'll likely find yourself starting your next day later (and far more relaxed) than you had imagined.

My husband and I picked this B&B based on the reviews, even though the price was more than we like to spend when he stay over in Austin. We were very impressed with how the manager, Carrie, handled the glitch we experienced with intermittent hot water our first night. She moved our belongings into a suite and then after discussion with the owner, offered to credit us for our first night. The owner and manager really want to ensure its customers enjoy their experience and we did! From the happy hour selection of wines, beers, ales, mineral waters and sodas as well as nuts, cheese and fruit to the light, healthy breakfast of orange juice, bagels, granola, spreads, banana walnut bread, yogurts and fresh fruit, as well as a coffee machine, which was available 24 hours providing american, cappucino, latte and expresso coffees. It felt like a peaceful oasis inside of a bustling and exciting city. Due to the change of rooms we got to visit both the standard rooms and a suite, and can definitely say that both offered comfortable beds and walk-in showers with rain shower heads. There is also a Jacuzzi tub in the suite. All was well-maintained and sparkling clean. We would definitely stay here again.

My Daughter and I wanted a getaway together to talk ,laugh, and shop. We chose Austin. The trip was the perfect lenght of time to feel as though we were truly "getting away" yet not too tiring. What a wonderful addition staying with the smart, sophisticated yet truly warm, intelligent staff at the coolest place in Texas was.The location is walking distance from some really wonderful shops and .in my opinion, true five star resturants. This place is a treasure to be explored by anyone who delights in the unexpected and fun.Kimber Modern, YOU ROCK!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Kimber Modern. The rooms were very clean, modern, and comfortable. The bathroom was like a spa in design and contained wonderful smelling hair and body product. In fact, I purchased some of the product to take home with me I loved it so much.

Kimber Modern has a beautiful courtyard with ample space to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. There is also a lovely common area where breakfast and happy hour are served.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about Austin and made great suggestions on places to visit.

We look forward to spending time at Kimber Modern in the future.
