“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2010

My husband and I enjoyed 3 days at Casa Del Sol Lavender Suite. The property is near Lake Travis and convenient to many Austin places and side trips. The backyard is so peaceful and secluded. You have a lovely pool and hot tub to use. We enjoyed the views of the property and beyond from our suite and deck. Doug and Cata provide a fruit bowl and a cake plate filled with delicious pastries. The living room and bedroom are very comfortable. We will definitely return to relax and enjoy ourselves again at Casa Del Sol.

Casa Del Sol was exactly what the doctor ordered - peaceful, beautiful, and romantic! It's secluded, but with a spectacular vista. Our room had everything we wanted (or could have needed). It's located close to enough to Austin for spending time in town and still not be too far from our home base. Plus, there was plenty to do around the lake. Going back to our hotel was not just something we did at the end of the day. It was something we looked forward to.

Doug and Cata are wonderful hosts, from the moment we walked into the secluded garden to the moment I laid my head on the fresh smelling sheets I was in awe.
We have been too many B&B’s some much more opulent but none as comfortable as Casa del Sol.
The view is beautiful; from the deck you have a beautiful view of the lake, you can lounge in one of the comfortable rockers to watch the sun rise over the water.
The pool was fantastic to sit by and enjoy in the sun, in the evening we soaked in the hot tub that is right out the door of the Lavender Suite.
The restaurants nearby are typical Austin from fantastic to organic and everything in between so if you’re planning a stay at Casa del Sol plan for it to be a long stay so you can enjoy all there is to do.

I can sum up the whole experience in three letters, WOW!!! My husband and I recently visited casa del sol and we were very impressed. It didn't look like much when we first drove up, but Doug meet me at the gate and then I walked in to the oasis. You don't even realize that you are in the middle of the city. My husband was at mansfield dam scuba diving and it was only 5 min away. The owners have the place so nice and decorated that you just get lost inside. We stayed in the lavender suite and it has a very nice panoramic view of the lake in the bedroom. You can lay in the queen bed and watch the sunset over the lake. The only complaint I have is that we couldn't stay longer, we had to come back to dallas to go to work. : ( Highly recommended to anyone staying around lake travis and we plan on staying again in april for another scuba trip.

Casa del Sol has 2 rooms to 'let'.
We stayed in the one facing the lake. The view was nice. The rooms were decorated in a true Austin spirit - a little artsy, well-travelled, slightly worn but with alot of character for the experience. The view of the lake was nice. There was an optional jacuzzi which we did not avail ourselves of. The bed was comfortable, the street was quiet.
It was an excellent place for a quiet romantic getaway - few distractions but enough opportunities (small games and books) for couples to truely enjoy their time together. I'm sure we'll return.
One small complaint - the 'breakfast' was less than optimal - the pastry provided was stale (though the fruit was good) but who stays at a hotel for the 'breakfast included'? The room had a guide with suggestions for many excellent places to eat.

We have stayed in at least a dozen B&B's over the past five years and this is by far the worst experience we have had. We only even saw the hosts twice the three nights we stayed there. The room was a detached garage, poorly decorated and very much in need of remodeling. It was February and only had a portable space heater, which turned on and off all night keeping us awake. There was mold growing in the shower. The T.V. was a small portable T.V. with only 4 channels and poor reception. The breakfast was a basket of fruit and wrapped muffins/bread delivered the day before. The pool might be nice in summer but in February we could not use it as it is not heated. We definitely would not stay here again, nor would we recommend it to anyone.

On the positive side, the bed was comfortable. The location was good for what we were doing in the area.

AustinCata, owner at Casa del Sol Bed and Breakfast at Lake Travis, responded to this review, July 24, 2009
Some guests just alerted us to this review. They read all the other good reviews we have gotten, and came anyway, telling us that they would return and recommend it.

To be fair, we are not an antique-filled Victorian that some people think of when they picture "bed and breakfast". We are an Austin style home and cottage. (not garage... the cottage used to be the pool house) Southwestern, Mexican style... as pictured in the websites.

Our pastries and fruit & coffee are fresh and organic from Whole Foods Market. We advertise "Continental Breakfast" on all the websites. That is what keeps us in our affordable price range.

The pool is not heated in February, but swimmable April through October.

In fairness, we didn't know the heater was on the blink, and since replaced it.

There is no mold in the shower, or anywhere in the cottage.

Respectfully,

Cata Low Owner & Manager
