Owner description: Over the years, people have come to this 1,000 foot long natural limestone pool, fed by several underground springs, for everything from fishing and swimming to baptisms and beauty pageants.

If you are visiting Austin, a visit to Barton Springs Pool is essential. Whether you actually dip into the pool (70 degrees year round) or just view from the exterior and visit the "springs", this is what Austin is all about -- the diversity of age, politics, religion, and wealth all come together to celebrate life and the environment. Awesome!

Likes: It's natural! Where else do you find a swimmin' hole downtown? If you go "off season" and at uncrowded times, Barton Springs Pool is a wonderful trip in the way-back machine.

Yikes! Parking can be a challenge. It used to be free, but now there's a modest charge to park. Predictably, when the weather is warm, the place is crowded.

Barton Springs Pool is so beautiful. It's a real treasure here in Austin and definitely a place to visit often.

Barton Springs Pool must have

The coldest water around is great in winter and summer. And a hike from there up Barton creek is the real thing.

Barton Springs is a wonderful place for families to visit and enjoy. Enjoy the spring, or the path for walking and biking, or the park. So much to do in one place! Bring a picnic lunch and make a day or it! If you have little ones...there is train ride that takes you around the park. I am not sure of the fee though.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The topless sunbathers are mostly gone, but there are occasional uninhibited sun worshippers. Dive down to the spring near the diving board and swim in front of it - it will blast you up to the surface while it freezes your nethers.
If you have a dog, you can go down below the pool and even avoid the minimal entrance fee. Fido can meet some new friends. Be careful! The concrete is very slippery. The bath house is vintage WPA era. The Springs are one of the few consistent things in Austin - a must see.
