If I lived in Austin I would be here all the time. Great swimming lake and nice walk to find it (long but nice) this is a definite must if you are visiting Austin and a great way to prepare your body for all the two stepping and bbq.

Relaxing way to spend the afternoon on a hot Texas day. Grab a spot in the shade (or the sun if you're working on your tan), lay a blanket or a towel down in the grass, and cool off in the refreshingly chilly spring water! Diving board for the kids and young at heart, or do laps in the long, rectangular body of water. Great place to hang out with friends, or go just on the other side of the fence to "barking springs" with your pooch! A must do!

It was under construction in Dec, but there were a few people still swimming. The museum area is good to be able to see how much water in the Austin area goes into this spring. Very interactive.

There is no place like Barton Springs pool on a hot Texas day. It is a natural spring fed pool carved out of the local limestone. While the water is truly chilly all the time, there are fish and natural plants growing in the bottom...the water is crystal clear. The area surrounding the pool is lush green grass, so bring your blanket, a book and enjoy a day in the sun. There are several entry ramps into the water, areas that are more shallow and a diving board for the adventurous. There is also a free exhibit at the entryway that shows the water actually coming up from the springs, teaches about water conservation and the endangered salamanders who reside in the springs. If you are on a tight budget and cannot afford the entry fee, there are places just past the fence off areas where the public can climb down and take a swim for free... your skin and hair will be unbelievably soft after your dip!

There is nothing better in The heat of the summer than to jump into the refreshingly frigid water of Barton springs. The only drawback is the line to get in and the parking.
