Owner description: Over the years, people have come to this 1,000 foot long natural limestone pool, fed by several underground springs, for everything from fishing and swimming to baptisms and beauty pageants.

This is Austin's most precious gem. In the summer, you can easily waste a whole day laying on the lawn and shock yourself in the 65 degree water every once in a while. There are many spring fed pools around Austin, but this is the biggest and best.

Well know for the locals - not so obvious for visitors - super place to cool down in the summer - and a lot of fun!

The pool is wonderful for 110 degree days and the lawn is great for Sun bathing. There is so much to do and great people watching.

I have been going to Barton Springs since 1978 (on and off, as I have moved away from Austin and now only get to go on visits to the area). It is the biggest, best spring fed swimming pool I have ever seen. It is simply huge with sloping lawns all round to laze a day away. The water is take your breath away cold, but it is perfect on a scorching summer day. There are showers and changing rooms as well. Top off the day with a visit to Chuy's just up the road for some great Mexican food and a frozen margarita.

It was hard to appreciate the beauty of the area with orange construction fencing everywhere. We were there on an 86 degree day. The water was freezing.
