SO awesome!! This is a definite must when visiting Austin! Love the retro look and the atmosphere. Also, it's a great place to go when Lone Star Roundup is going on! You can literally sit at the hotel and watch all of the great cars pass by.

Thanks so much for staying with us and leaving a review!

The Lonestar Roundup is one of our favorite events every year, as it brings back so many return guests, and Congress Avenue is packed with amazing hot rods and custom rides. Our friends across the street at the Continental Club always have a great lineup that weekend, too.

We hope you return next year or even sooner, and thank you again!

My daughters and I stayed at the Austin Motel for a little Mother/Daughter Retreat. The beds were comfortable and the room is updated to include most all "modern conveniences", even though the motel is very "vintage." The furnishings are clean and bright and functional. The best thing about Austin Motel is its location. We spent our days just walking to various restaurants, enjoying the food, happy hours and the clean fresh air-- never needing to get in our car. There is a nice little restaurant, Jo Ann's Fine Food, attached to the motel lobby-- super convenient. I regret that it rained the day we wanted to spend at the pool, so we did not get to experience that-- but it looked very nice! I'm sure we would have enjoyed time poolside, as there is sufficient privacy even though all of this property is on South Congress Ave. I would love to return for another trip down the South Congress Corridor !

Room tip: There are some rooms that open up to a Courtyard Bar/Lounge area. You might request one of these rooms, if that environment appeals to you.

Hi,

Thank you for choosing the Austin Motel for your Mother/Daughter Retreat! I'm happy to hear you both had such a good time and enjoyed the location, rooms, and our partner restaurant, Joann's.

We do hope you get an opportunity to stay again so you can experience our pool. On the weekends, Joann's operates the poolside bar, and it's definitely a lovely way to spend a sunny day.

We appreciate the review and hope to welcome you back soon!

We decided to visit Austin and decided on this motel. Not knowing much about the region, I think we made the right call. Located in the South Congress area, this motel is a great jumping off point for a lot of activities and has a lot of convenient places nearby.
If you've never been to Austin, you'll soon realize that it's a growing city which makes parking somewhat if a hassle no matter where you are, but even more so in popular areas like "SoCo". That was not a problem for us as we could park our car and easily walk to any of the stores and restaurants in the area (and there are quite a few good ones to try! ) in the immediate area, there is Joann's (restaurant attached to the motel), Jo's is a good place for coffee and breakfast, and I also enjoyed the juice bar across the street. The Continental Club is also near if you're in the mood for music and don't feel like driving.
Besides the attractions in the immediate area, you are also close to downtown. It's about a 15 minute walk to the bridge (and bat observation) and a little farther to downtown / 6th Street. There are several lime bikes and scooters available if you don't want to walk to the downtown area, but be aware surface lot parking can be expensive if you decide to drive.
The motel itself is a throwback to the early days of motor travel, and it seems they have kept a lot of the originality of the hotel, giving it a retro charm while still making it seem fresh and hip. With that being said, the rooms are nice but you shouldn't have the same expectations as a modern hotel.
I especially liked the courtyard and pool area. Austin is fun, but there is really only so much to do during the day, so we enjoyed several hours just sitting in the courtyard outside our room. It was a welcome respite after a day of exploring, with good drinks and cool music. Service in the courtyard could be spotty at times, but the wait staff in the courtyard was definitely the friendliest. The pool was another great perk. It's a decent size, and just a great place to hang out and relax.
All-in-all I really enjoyed my stay at the Austin Motel. It's in a great location and the outdoor areas gave it a nice vacation feel.

We loved the Austin Motel! The location is the best part as you can easily walk to tons of different restaurants and shops. Every morning we went next door to Jo's for coffee and delicious breakfast tacos (highly recommend going here at least once!).
We stayed in a king room and while it was pretty basic it met all our needs. It was clean, had a really comfortable bed, a sitting area, mini fridge, and really cute decor. The rooms also have cute robes for use. They sell the robes in the lobby and while I REALLY wanted one it was a bit outside my budget ($125). The staff was really friendly and gave us good recommendations for food, music, and drinks. The heated pool looked AMAZING but unfortunately it was cold and rainy during our stay so we did not swim. We used Lyft to get around town and never had to wait more than 1 minute to get picked up since it's in such a central location.
One thing to note is there are no outlets in the bathroom and no other mirrors in the room so it was a little challenging getting ready in the morning (next time I'll bring a travel mirror with me!). Other than that no complaints, we were very happy with our stay. We will definitely return to the Austin Motel next time we are in town!

Pros:
South Congress is where it’s at. A walk/bike/scooter ride from all Austin has to offer.
The front desk and Joann’s next door have super friendly, warm & helpful people. Evan a favourite :)
Delicious food at Joann’s and great patio!
Property is lovely. Too cold for the pool (w bar!) but looked like an awesome place to hang when it heats up. Cute boutique shop in lobby.
Cons: The room. I was prepared for it being an older motel, but man it reeked. Don’t think they’ve cleaned the carpets since LBJ was prez. Drinking glasses weren’t clean, sheets were stained. Vagina tree wallpaper cold comfort but adorable.
Would definitely stay again but perhaps not in room 404. xo
