Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

The Texas State Capitol building and the grounds are breathtaking. The tour is really good and is given free of charge by volunteers. You really learn a lot of Texas history and the tour lasts about 45 minutes. The rotunda is exquisite and the floor you have to see to believe. The grounds are a few well kept acres with incredible sculptures. Definitely worth the time.

This is a great stroll through. It is free and sits up on the hills just blocks from bars and downtown area. It is a very impressive building and grounds and certainly should make Texas proud, just behind it is the Texas museum so all in walking distance and to do both it will take a couple of hours. Plus great eats near by.

The grounds of the capital are very nice with good sculptures. Inside the cupola is very pretty. The tour is highly recommended and it was free.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014

We spent about an hour walking around the grounds and meandering through the inside of the capitol building. Nice architecture, and interesting offices, rooms, and library in the Capitol. We didn't do a tour, but we visited all levels and it was worthwhile.

“Atmospheric”

Very picturesque to say the least. Free to enter after a genial security check. Public guided tours available but helpful leaflets provided enabled us to self guide. atmospheric and well restored. Enjoyed it.
