Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

“Beautiful building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Our son & daughter-in-law moved to Texas from Minnesota last year. They had gone to the capital building before, but didn't know you could go inside to look around. When we were there for our visit, we just planned on walking around on the grounds on a Sunday. To our surprise, there were people going inside. We entered, went through the security, and were able to go through many parts of the building. The architecture is beautiful. A must see!

“Free tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

The Capitol is really beautiful, built with plenty of lone star pride. There is a parking garage on San jacinto where you can park free for up to two hours which is just the right amount of time to see the sites. I was able to hop right into a free tour within a couple of minutes of walking through the door. The guide was knowledgable but maybe a little dry. After the tour I was able to walk around the building on my own. I also checked out the visitors center which is a separate structure on the premises. Just follow the signs to get there. It had several exhibits and a couple theaters.

“No capital is better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Of course the great state of Texas does it right! This building is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, and parking is easy. Walking inside you look up into the dome and see the beautiful architecture and the letters spelling out T E X A S on the ceiling. I wish I'd known about the tours by reading other reviews but that just gives me another reason to go back. The grounds are also beautiful with plenty of sidewalks all around. You can get right up next to the building and the back and sides are just as beautiful as the front. Do go see it...you shouldn't regret it!
