Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Things really are bigger and larger and taller in Texas. This art deco treasure is worth a trip as well as a stroll around the well kept grounds.

We had some extra time in Austin and on a whim decided to check out the capitol - there were free tours so we took one. So glad we did! Interesting, informative and fun. Lots of history connected there and great architecture too. Definitely a must do downtown.

State Capital building is a wonderful structure and extremely well maintained. Grounds are large so be ready for a little walk to the Capital steps but parking is near by. Upon entering, you will feel proud to be there. This is the website. http://www.tspb.state.tx.us/SPB/Plan/Parking.htm

An interesting place to visit, with friendly staff. Very clean, and no charge. Easy to park. A nice place to spend an hour or so before you have to catch your plane.
