Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Great building in terms of both size and architecture. We visited on a Saturday and spent a couple of hours soaking up the State Capitol's unique atmosphere. My favorite part was walking through the gardens, which were both quiet and peaceful.

We enjoyed the gardens outside as well as viewing the beautiful architecture, high central dome and the historical information inside.

Other than the impressive Capital itself, the info desk inside had the best maps and local information that we found in all of Austin (and the staff turned us on to some great places to eat)

First of all, it's free which is always good! It is a very interesting and historic building. The underground passages are particularly interesting

Loved the building and architecture. Staff at the Capitol Visitors Center was very helpful. A must-see when you're in Austin.
