Zilker park is great! The park offers a great view of downtown Austin. There are some very nice, safe running trails. Austin is a "healthy" city, meaning that a large number of residents enjoy outdoor excersise. If you get a chance be sure to check out the kite festival, or my favorite, Austin City Limits Music Festival. The park is turned into a 3 day convert with 8 stages and around 110 bands. It's a great time, and a beautiful place to spend the day.

Zilker Park is a large recreational space in the heart of the city, but unless you brought your baseball gear, there's not that much to entertain the visitor aside from the Botanical Gardens. Most of the park is designed for use in recreational sports so if you stray too far from the lake you'll be lost in a maze of sports fields.

There is however a large field near the Town Lake trail that has a fantastic view of the downtown skyline. It's worth the hike to get a picture, since you'll be hard-pressed to find a better view elsewhere. If the weather permits, it's be a nice place for an afternoon picnic. Congress Ave's Royal Blue Market has a great selection of sandwiches and snacks (with pure cane sugar, no HFCS Dr. Pepper fountain drinks!) to assemble a lovely lunch if you're hading to Zilker Park from downtown.

Definitely worth the $2. Just walk the paths and enjoy. Lotsa' flowers, water, birds. But if you can't handle a moquito or two, I guess this is not the place for you.

Barton Springs is here, music during the summer, and many events held here during the year. Check the events in the paper to see what is going on here while visiting.
