Hotel is clean, service is good, and location is convenient to University, but plumbing leaked throughout the night, toilet did not work and sealed windows did not block highway noise. Ask for room away from highway and check plumbing before you settle in.

Dear Buzz32_13,
I am glad to hear you enjoyed our clean rooms and good service. However, I would like to apologize for the plumbing issues you experienced, as this is not a reflection of the standards we have set for our property. The issue has been resolved and I hope you will allow us the opportunity to earn back your loyalty by providing quality service in all areas during your next stay.

Sincerely,

Staff was nice, cookie was good, very noisy because it's next to a highway, room service was super expensive (had cereal, milk, and fruit and it was $19), my iron was broken and they replaced it quickly, close to Denny's.

First, I should apologize to travelers intending to spend time mainly in the UT area who have booked trips to Austin between when I stayed at this property and now. I should have written this positive review sooner!

There are several hotels I use in the Austin area, and frequent trips are quickly building my familiarity. I would not place this hotel highly above the others I have reviewed positively in the area, but location is a major selling point. As you drive through Austin these days you will see license plates from California, Idaho, Illinois, forty-five other states, and Mexico. As a Texan, these foreign driving styles are aggravating and likely if you are traveling to Texas from elsewhere, we may seem aggressive.

Additionally, the infrastructure, due to factors such as historic landmarks, cannot be expanded quickly to meet this influx of new residents. Qualitative and quantitative factors thus work actively against driving easily in the city lately. This property is perfect if you are attending a lecture at the LBJ, if you’re visiting students at UT or attending a game there, if you’re attending a class at the Thompson Conference Center and would like to be on time in the morning, and if you are otherwise spending most time north of the Capitol.

Unlike hotels on the western side/the UT and Capitol side of I-35 though, you really can’t timely, and probably not very safely, walk to the destinations like 6th Street. The price is good though, and parking is usually not a problem within walking vicinity of places like Bess Bistro or Antone’s.

Their sister property more northerly off I-35 has a very hospitable staff as well. It is difficult to say that one group was more friendly and welcoming than the other. This property’s staff was cheerful and greeted me each time I returned, and provided me with complimentary toothpaste when I realized that my travel bottle was empty. My bill was correct and they even quickly and capably addressed my tax exemption form… some places act like this is a difficult and strange process. Probably the only difference in staff between this and its sister property to the north is that the staff I encountered were more often female than male.

Overall, this is a well-placed, clean hotel with competent staff. Depending on your reason for visiting, you might find this best meets your needs. Especially if you are attending a meeting or training at the LBJ or Thompson conference Center during work hours, this hotel location will enable you to timely make your meetings without factoring in an extra hour of traffic.

This is much better place than your usual motel five. Yes, from the European perspective it's a fair comparison.

The only big issue with the hotel is the loud noise from the highway to many of the rooms. Single windows, you know. Ask for a room from the quiet side (facing cemetery), otherwise you won't be happy!

On the positive side, the bed was really comfy, room was clean and service worked perfectly.

I had to travel to Austin for business during SXSW and couldn't believe the rates a number of other chains were charging. DoubleTree was one of the only hotels to keep their rates fairly reasonable at $350 / night compared to the $750 / night of other comparable or lesser quality chains. Kudos to Hilton for not price gouging like everyone else.

The room was fine and stay was comfortable. The hotel is a bit dated, but not too bad. I'd stay here again.

We were never more plesantly surprised. We have been going to our school's state basketball tournament at the Frank Erwin Center for the past five years. We always try to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels, and usually there is some sort of problem. With the Doubletree there were no problems at all...........room was perfectly clean.............our order placed before we arrived was in the room......a FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR.............we never waited over 15 minutes for anything. The shuttle took us to all the games and picked us up when we called.........We won state, so expected a bit of a celebration........the shuttle took us to dinner at Moonshiners, and picked us up as planned..........there was just nothing they could have done to make our stay better. We have never had a better stay anywhere.

Room Tip: We were on the 6th floor with a view of the Capitol and we honestly felt we were the only ones in th...
