“Very close hotel to UT Stadium”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

We stayed here the night of the Thanksgiving game of Texas vs TCU. It is about a mile walk to the stadium and is very convenient because they have free parking. Most of the parking lots are about the same distance from the stadium. This is a very nice hotel despite the complaints that it is locate next to a cemetery. Both my wife and I grew up within walking distance from each of our childhood homes from cemeteries and played in them so this was not a concern of ours. There is a Denny's located next door and the hotel also has a restaurant on site, plus a small bar.

I visited Austin for an academic conference at the AT&T conference center. Since the room type we wanted was not available at the conference center's hotel, we booked at DoubleTree University Area.
The hotel itself is good. Clean and comfort rooms, large bathroom, nice service at reception. We had the business package which included wifi access.
One problem was that there was no safe in the room.

If you plan to stay there while attending a conference at the university, note that the hotel may not be in a walking distance from the university conference center on warm weather. There are a few hills to pass on the way as well.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel. I am glad to hear you enjoyed our clean and comfortable rooms, and our friendly staff. I am sorry we were not able to provide a safe for you during your stay, but we will be adding in-room safes this coming year. We hope to see you again soon, if your plans bring you back to the Austin area.

We stayed here during UT Family Weekend and were not disappointed. This is the second time we stayed here in the last couple of months. The service here is excellent, including the housekeeping service to the front desk to the wait staff in the restaurant. Our room was on the 6th floor this time with a view of the campus. Road noise was not an issue. Slept like a baby!! One of the nice things we discovered was on Friday afternoon. We had already parked the car on campus and were able to hop the intercampus UT bus and be taken to the ball fields which are 5 minutes from the hotel. Had a nice walk to the hotel, checked in, and then walked back to the bus line and caught the bus back to campus. This is a nice hotel and the price can't be beat for the level of cleanliness and service that you get. Parking is free too so no paying hefty prices on top of your hefty hotel bill. This is our first choice when staying here for visits with our son at UT.

The hotel is located on the other side of I-35 from the Capital and University. It is actually quite close which is pretty nice. Be advised that it is right above I-35 which introduces a fair amount of lights and road noise.

When we walked into our room (5th floor on the north side) we noticed a lingering smell kind of like you would get from a kitchen. The window was not able to be opened so the smell must have been coming from the vent. Thinking it was a temporary thing we hit the town. However, the smell was back with a vengeance on our late return and in the morning. My brother thought it was the smell of hash browns and bacon; I thought it was more like grilled cheese.

The front desk indicated that we were not the first to notice the problem. When you arrive be sure to give your room the sniff test before you settle in. The free cookie you get is not a proper reimbursement for sleeping in a room that smells like a fry kitchen.

Room Tip: Do the sniff test. If it smells like a fry kitchen it won't improve over time.

This place offered excellent service and was everything a five star hotel should be (and given the price at $250, I would have expected nothing less). We had the room paid for us so were not having to consider the cost, although it seems expensive to me. The room was more like an apartment with separate lounge area, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. We were visiting the university and was in walking distance of Harry Ransom Library, although the hotel offers a shuttle bus service to anywhere wihtin 2 mile radius. They took is to 6th street on first night, and then to car rental once we checked out. They give out homemade cookies on check-in but we liked them so much, we asked for one every day! The least they could do since breakfast was not included in the price, which I though a bit much.

The hotel is in an excellent location to access either the State Capitol or the University. It is also fairly convenient if you are attending events at the Convention center. Adequate parking and easy access from the interstate. The room was pleasant and clean. The front desk service was prompt and friendly. It was a good choice for the price.

Check in was quick, room and and entire hotel was spotless. Some great restaraunts down the street aways on Manor...I recommend Vivo Cocina. At the Dennys next to the hotel, ceasar salad was void of flavor and lettuce was limp.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again.
