SpringHill Suites Austin Northwest/Arboretum
Ranked #120 of 201 Hotels in Austin
Reviewed October 23, 2007

We stayed at the Springhill Suites Arboretum this month while in Austin for a wedding. We had 4 rooms booked; we checked for 3 of them at once and they actually put us all together on one floor, which right there is nothing short of amazing.

We had one bedroom suites with sofa beds in the living area so we could accomodate 3 or 4 people to a room, and this worked out nicely.

The hotel served a buffet breakfast in the morning, which was nice - we could all meet for breakfast without having to coordinate a drive to a restaurant somewhere... we did enough logistical maneuvering the rest of the time!

The rooms were clean and well appointed with a full kitchen, living room with a sofa and several chairs, desk, TV in the living area as well as the bedroom. The beds were comfortable enough - not over the top but fine for a couple of nights. Plenty of storage space. Service was minimal - they don't clean the rooms on a daily basis on the weekends, but they did come around and offer clean towels.

All in all, it was a good spot for what we needed at the time. I'd recommend it to families, small groups.

I live in hope when I'm booked into one of these hotels. It's always a faint hope, tempered by years of disappointment.

That hope is, and continues to be, that these box-like suburban hotel brands will do SOMETHING - just one thing - to differentiate themselves from each other.

So... checked in quite late (around 1:30 am). Pleasant, but anonymous clerk had me on my way to my room in less than 60 seconds. The room was... just a room. Hotel is slightly dated; has that flowery, musty smell that accompanies places where the carpet has been damp several times and not quite dried out.

The room, a 'studio' 'suite' is just a normal room with a half wall divider between the bed and TV area. The TV is placed awkwardly between these two areas - it's ok in the living area, but it doesn't turn enough to allow easy viewing from the bed. Not a problem for some, maybe a problem for others.

The bathroom (toilet + shower) is separate from the washbasin. I'm seeing this more and more in hotels, and quite frankly I don't like it. I prefer it to be all in the same room. To each his own I guess.

The air conditioner was extremely loud, and it was located about 2 feet away from the bed. Very difficult to have it on while you're sleeping, as it blows directly on you.

Continental breakfast was ok, I just want tea and a bagel in the morning - and that was fulfilled. There were meat patties with identical factory egg patties side by each; again not my thing - but I didn't see too many other people taking them.

And that's pretty much all there is to say. Again, really no differentiation between this place and the Hampton Inn, the Courtyard, the Amerisuites, etc. etc. etc.

Two drawbacks to this location, however. To get there, if your cabbie doesn't know the way (take a map!), is an Escher-like puzzle (especially if you're coming from the south). Stonelake has two distinct segments, a fact lost on my cab driver. Oh well, he'll get it right next time - we can educate them one by one!

The other problem is that there really is nothing within a quick walk to eat. Well, ok, there is "Sam's Boat" across the street. I don't really consider that to be 'food' - it's mostly just deep fried brown stuff. And beer. Cheap beer..

Would I stay here again? Sure, why not. It's cheap, and it did the job.

Good value for the money. Our sleeping room was large (king bed, sleeper couch, refrig, desk), clean and quiet. Fitness room and inpool pool were both in good shape. Decent continental breakfast. Staff very friendly. Locale perfect for Arboretum area visit (and not terribly out of way in terms of UT campus and other sites). We will come back to this hotel for sure.

Decent value for the money - nice sized room with sitting area, mini fridge and microwave, etc. Highly recommend Sam's Boat restaurant/bar across the street. Great happy hour deals almost every night ($1.75 drafts, .25 oysters, etc) and good, reasonably priced food.

We just completed a 5-day stay at this hotel in NW Austin; this is our second stay here.

This hotel offers a lot of room for the price with a desk, microwave, and refrigerator, and couch. You might find that the N. Austin Springhill Suites is less expensive than the S. Austin location

The hotel is very clean, the personnel are all very friendly. The breakfast selection, although somewhat limited, is fresh and the breakfast area is well maintained.

Wireless internet is offered in the breakfast area, and hard wired in the rooms.

The hotel is a bit difficult to find, and the mass of roads in this area are confusing at first, but once mastered, this location is very convenient to N. Austin and downtown.

I recommend this hotel.
