“Great option for a group/family, but not centrally located”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2010

I stayed at the Habitat Suites for a girlfriends' getaway. The staff was friendly (though we did have one irritating snafu with the key-cards for the room) and the hotel is very pleasant, with lovely landscaped grounds. The full breakfast was pretty good. Other reviews complained about outdated decor, but although it was not cutting-edge, we thought it was perfectly fine. Nights were quiet, except for the bird-song at 4 a.m. We didn't do any cooking, so I can't comment on the kitchen facilities.

The only downside -- but a significant one, depending on your needs -- is the location. We stayed for 3 days/2 nights, and drove back and forth to town at least 4 times during that time -- it's 15 minutes with light traffic, but can be 30 or more in heavy traffic. We were all very happy with the cost of the hotel, but in retrospect, we might have been willing to spend a bit more to stay downtown and avoid spending all that time in the car.

Impressed with where we are staying in Austin, TX. Buffet breakfast has real food on ceramic plates and stainless flatware with cloth napkins and excellent coffee, quiet and clean rooms that don't smell of cleaning fluids, quite and unobtrusive heating and air conditioning, bathrooms are spacious enough with high ceiling to not feel claustrophobic, clean guest laundry, well-kept and interesting landscaping includes herbs and veggies! Free Wifi worked flawlessly. Not downtown and not on the Interstate so you won't have fast food chains outside your door, but access is good. Not a chain hotel, privately owned and managed.

I stay at this hotel every time I travel to Austin and don't even look elsewhere when booking a hotel. Its basically a condo/apartment complex converted to a hotel so you get your own apartment with full kitchen and living room. Your front door opens to a nice patio/balcony surrounded by lush green lanscaping with mature trees in a quiet part of town. They serve a full breakfast, nothing special except that you can sit sit at the poolside and enjoy the great outdoors and the nice Austin (most of the time) weather. Feels like coming home to my own place after a night out on sixth street which is just a short drive away.

My husband and I really enjoyed the hospitality so much we are planning on spending our 5th wedding anniversary there. The intimate social hour was great. There was a great selection of beverages and snacks each evening. The suite was very comfortable and clean. It was extremely quite on the grounds. The trees made it even more relaxing. The location was very good (close to downtown) and walking distance from the mall. This was a quite getaway.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Habitat Suites several times in the past few years...My daughter (and only child) was attending college there in Austin and Habitat Suites was the perfect place to stay to help alleviate my separation anxiety. It is always clean, comfortable and has every comfort of home, from the living/sitting area to the separate bed and bathrooms and I can leave out the fully equipped kitchens. I have told all of my friends about Habitat Suites, and many of them have stayed. I also travel back and forward to Austin on business and habitat is my home during those stays as well. It's truly a wonderful place to Stay.

Where else but at the Habitat will you be surrounded by plants and birds, have your own fireplace (downstairs rooms only), get the sayings of the Buddha in your bedside table, use tiny sandalwood soaps, and get a generous hot breakfast and Happy Hour with a vegan/vegetarian option? Love this place.....Quiet time after 9:00 p.m., friendly staff, big rooms. Child and pet-friendly.

I used to stay here for business over 20 years ago. Liked it then and still like it now. After planning a trip to Austin, and searching for a standard hotel, I remembered this place, and did a search not even knowing if it was still in business. Obviously it was and their rates seemed very competitive. I was pleasantly surprised to get a 25% discount for booking online. This is an old-style suites hotel that is more like apartment buildings, having several 2-3 story buildings in the complex, with attractive gardens and pathways weaving between. All the units have a private, outside entrance. The location is a bit out-of-the-way, which may explain the reasonable rates, but it also adds to the overall laid back (and quiet) atmosphere. The free breakfast is top notch, with a wide variety of hot and cold selections, a true full breakfast. A further perk is a free two-hour happy hour every day from 5-7 pm (Except Sunday), which includes beer, wine, soft drinks and a wide range of snacks and hors d'oeuvres. Can't beat it. The decor/furnishings are a bit dated and the full kitchen and bath could use updating, but everything was working and clean. No flat panel TVs, but these are minor complaints compared to the great value this very comfortable hotel offers. I would definitely recommend this spot for anyone traveling to Austin that didn't need to be located downtown or any of the other 'hot spots.' And for those with an environmental conscience, the Habitat is billed as a 'green' hotel.
