We took the option with the cruise on lake ladybird. The cruise started at 6pm. Correctly at 6.34pm when the bats were coming out we came towards the bridge. Millions of bats. Was a thrilling experience. One can even just see the bats standing on the bridge.

Really awesome experience! I've been a handful of times and I'm a local. You can either stand above where they come out on the Congress bridge, or lawn-side, or you can get on a party boat to get right underneath where the bats fly out.

The best time to see the bats is the hardest time to be in Austin. A few tips: Go swim at Deep Eddy pool first. It will bring down your body temperature an make your evening more comfortable: Make a reservation at the Four Season's Hotel. Ask for a pitcher of sangria and sit on the lawn outside the restaurant. It will be a more memorable evening and you won't just be hanging off the side of a very crowded, very busy road.
It lasts for just a few minutes any it is more spectacular beneath the bridge. The Four Season's is wonderful and you will be happy to be there.

At dusk thousands of bats fly off to feed. It's an amazing experience. The best time of year is from May through October.

This is so incredible, I’m not even sure where to begin. Can you imagine 1.5 million
bats coming out to feed at dusk? Well, that’s exactly what you are going to see. During the summer, people gather on the sidewalk of the bridge and wait for the sun to go down and the bats to come out. It takes at least 30-40 minutes for them all to exit their little bat home under the bridge. There are several websites that can give you specifics about sunsets and the months that the bats are in Texas. Seeing the bats is certainly something you should do if you are in Austin. Whether or not you like bats, this is a pretty incredible experience.

Even though it was overcast, so wonderful to see the bats take flight. Sunset was at 5:31 pm and the bats emerged at 5:40 pm. It was a sight to see!

One of the most interesting sights to see while visiting Austin. Gather along Congress St bridge.( You'll see a lot of folks along the East side of the bridge) At dusk looking East you will see an amazing site as 1M+ bats take flight for their evening meal.

I've seen bats before, but not so many, and not all at once! Very cool, unusual attraction. Had to wait about half an hour, but the wait just made it suspenseful. Would come back.

One of my nightly walking experiences! Walked the short distanced from my hotel (JW Marriott - 2nd Street) to the bridge each night. Loved seeing all the bats and hearing history from the locals about the bats!

Loved this! Only about 1/6 of the normal bat population is still here but the view was still awesome. People lined the Congress Bridge on both sides and along the river in addition to the kayaks and the sunset cruise people.
