If you're a visitor to Austin, you've probably heard a lot about the bat bridge. I think it is absolutely fascinating. You wouldn't believe how many bats are living under that bridge!! And to see them swarm out into the night is just incredible.
The grassy area is a great relaxing spot to watch the bats from a safe distance, but it can get crowded and parking can be complicated. On the other hand, standing on the bridge is better IF you want to get up close and personal with the bats. On my first trip to the bridge, a bat actually flew into my hair, sending me running out in traffic. A lot of people choose this spot, but I never went back up there.
Be sure to do your research. They fly at a very specific time, and it's over in a matter of minutes.More
