“That's a lot of bats!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

Very impressive. For those who have not seen it (and everyone on line has so far been non-specific), at least on the day I saw them, the bats emerged primarily from the southern end of the bridge and flew along the southern shore of Lady Bird Lake in a southeasterly direction. The main part of the departure took approximately 8 minutes, and began for us about 6 minutes before official sunset. That should help you position yourself if it is consistent (which I do not know, but since they likely roost in same places, is likely so), and get the timing right. The park lands along the north side of Lady Bird Lake have some good viewing spots.

“Gotta see them from the water”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

We have seen the bats at least three visits, but the best way is to book a spot on the river boat "bat tour". Sunset cruise up Lady Bird Lake above the bridge and a slow drift through the city center back to the bat bridge. Incredible sights and a really fun way to spend some time in Austin.

“Nature at its best”

Watching the bats leave from the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset is highly recommended. It is amazing to watch them leave each evening.

“Bats, bats and more bats!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

A must see if you have some waiting time before dinner. I went and saw the bats during the summer and there are a few spots to see them, be sure to get there early as it gets packed, but so worth it. Austin has one of the largest bat colonies!
