Owner description: The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us. The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

“Ahh”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Not far from the hustle and bustle of downtown you will find this gem. Take a walk, breathe the fresh air, snap some photos, curl up on a bench and read or have lunch in the cafe. Absolutely one of my favorite spots in Austin.

“Lady Bird's gift”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

If you were born before the 1970s and grew up in Texas, you are probably very aware of Lady Bird's efforts to beautify her home State of Texas. Wildflowers along the highways, parks, and so much more. The Wildflower Center is a wonderful living tribute to Lady Bird as well as a wonderful gift to anyone who visits. Take a stroll among the many trails, learn about native plants and wildlife. Or just simply enjoy being outside with nature.

“Very well worth a stop”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Of course the wildflowers and presentation was very much worth the trip. I can only assume that it would be better during spring or fall blooming seasons. Be sure to climb the observation tower especially if you have a child along. You can view in all directions for many miles, including downtown Austin on a clear day. Also, it is a great history lesson about what Lady Bird did for our country in the way of preserving our wildflowers.

“Texas Hill Country Canvas of Flowers”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Super place to take yourself, and/or family. Strolling through the acreage there is quite peaceful, while surrounded by different foliage, trees, and of course flowers. They usually have different flowers all the time depending upon the season, except for maybe January/February, but it is mild in Central Texas, so you never know what you might find. Have fun!
