Owner description: The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us. The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

Lovely hiking trails and very pretty flora and fauna. There were a lot of kids with moms there enjoying the ponds, and also there were some schools visiting. Fun and pretty place.

We visited Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in April after a cool spell. The flowers were so much more profuse and colorful than in July or September when we had previously visited. It is a great spot to share with people of all ages. The little ones enjoy walking around and finding bugs, the older folks appreciate the beauty of the different beds and the art that is displayed. If you go, don't miss the gallery that is in the gardens. It features wonderful works that are ususally by local artists.
The buildings must be mentioned as well. They are wonderful stone creations with a tower and terraces that should not be missed.

I have family in Austin and I have always wanted to go to the Wildflower Center. April is a great time to go. It was beautiful. Some nice kinetic sculptures. Great places to sit and watch. Also, several trails to take some nice walks. There is a gift shop and a cafe. I joined as a member so now when I visit, I have a great place to go walk. Across the street is the new Veloway for bike riders in your family.

We dropped by recently and really enjoyed learning more about the Texas wildflowers and native plants. The gardens are nicely laid out and there is lots of information. There are several trails that branch out from the center of the grounds through the surrounding fields. Cleverly, there are spots to rest along the trail and even the odd water fountain.

We stayed for lunch at the little cafe and had an extremely pleasant lunch among the flowers.

The gift shop is stocked with lots of local handcrafts and flower related books, art, jewelry, and gifts.

I'm not sure what it would be like here on a hot summer day, but on a warm spring day with abundant wildflowers, it was a delight.

I was a bit disappointed that wildflowers are different from botanical gardens in that only about 10-12 species are blooming at a time, so you see lots of non-blooming plants but not a lot of flowers. However, liked the scenery and atmosphere, and the trails were cool, if not full of blooms.
