Owner description: The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us. The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

Enjoyed several hours learning about native Texas landscaping and options for our new one. Enjoyed the educational demonstrations and the artist in residence gallery. Highly recommend visiting.

“Highlight of the trip”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Even though we were in the Hills of Texas before the full outbreak of spring we loved touring these grounds. There are many trails to wander and lots of demonstration gardens to view. They have a little cafe and the salad and hibiscus tea was wonderful.

“Wildflower Center”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Ladybird Johnson's primary emphasis while First Lady was the beautification of the nation's highways. To this end, she and her supporters and family created the Wildflower Center as a research center for wild plants and for educating the public about them. The center is excellent as a garden, and it offers special classes and demonstrations that are open to the public.

“Loved it!!!”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

I was just there during off season It was still so beautiful! My favorite part of the flower trail were the trees with the swings on open land. It was so peaceful. I'd go back to Austin just to re-visit this place. Great experience!!

“You cannot go wrong enjoying wildflowers!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

You cannot find anything more beautiful than wildflowers in the spring in Texas. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a fabulous place to enjoy them. Try to go when they are in full bloom. The Wildflower center has several different events that are open to the public.
