Loved some of the items on the buffet. The sausage was wonderful. The beef brisket was tough, and thus left on the plate. Catfish was good. Veggies were good.

The baked potato, while small, was excellent. My daughters steak was ok, but very dry. She ordered well done, but many places manage to still have some juice on well doners.

The rolls on the buffet were hard, and were not fresh.

Service was good.

So Athens is a pretty quaint, sleepy town, but if you walk into the Old West Steak House at lunch time, it is packed with people. You get the feeling that a good number of the people go there every day and a good number of those have been going there every day for years and years (and years). They have a lunch buffett that has a little of everything and it seems that one aspect of it varies by day but another part of it is the smae every day. They asked if I wanted sweet or unsweetened tea which just the question makes meee smile for my love of sweet tea and nostalgia from living in the Carolinas years ago. They also have a pretty impressive dessert spread with the lunch buffett. While I am not a believer that lunch really needs dessert, it is hard to pass up their spread, so I had a little of their banana pudding which was very good. The restaurant felt exactly as it should for a homey lunch restaurant in a small town. The service was very nice and friendly. I definitely enjoyed it and next time I go through Athens, i would love to stop in again.

Service was great and partons and staff were very friendly. This seemed to be the place the locals ate. The dining area was full but we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. The large, friendly party of local residents who were in front of us offered to let us go in front of them when they discovered we were visitors from out of town. They had a big bar-b-que buffet but we had the chichen fried steak and it was large, delicious and hand battered,,,,, not frozen and then pulled out of a box and deep fried.
