“Room was nice once you got past the exterior.”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

Front desk staff was very pleasant and prompt. Exterior appearance of hotel is poor, but the room was clean and comfortable. We stayed on the back side which was a long way from the lobby, but also far from the freeway noise. The service at the nearby Denny's was abysmal. There is an I-Hop across the freeway that was rumored to be better.

We stayed at the La Quinta Inn Amarillo East Airport Area as the last stop on a week long driving trip from New Mexico to New Orleans and back. The hotel is old and has a worn feeling. The staff is OK, but not that helpful. The cleaning of the common areas was less than adequate. The Internet connection was very slow. The morning breakfast was not kept up so there were things that were missing. The only sit down restaurant we could find was a Cracker Barrel a couple of miles away. Everything else was fast food.

Our mistake was choosing a hotel on the East side of Amarillo which is an older area. All the hotels have been there for a long time. The newer hotels are on the West side and there are far more restaurant choices.

The only 'good' thing about this hotel was the price which was pretty low.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, pay the extra amount for an Executive King suite. You at least have more room.

This hotel was understaffed for a "no vacancy" Saturday night. Long check in line (8 ppl) with 1 desk clerk who was not in office over 7 minutes attending to other guest problems. Room was clean, but dumpster near room was overflowing. Bathtub would NOT drain at all. Nearby rooms also reported toilet and other problems. Desk clerk did bring a plunger to us to try to get the tub draining, then said to take it to a room a few doors down, as they needed it for toilet blockage. Hey, why not have a maintenance staff on duty when guests are actually present and problems might arise?! Will NOT stay at this hotel again.

Had a family reunion in the area and needed to keep the cost down for some of our group so for the price it was ok. Our room was clean enough for the age but some of the touches were missing. There was obviously a tear in our carpet that had been here a while so why not fix it? It had a blow dyer, iron, fridge and microwave. The bed was comfortable and clean with nice selection of pillow options. We really wanted to check in before 3 but when inquired they continue to inform us check in was not till 3 without even looking to what had been ready yet. The next day we noticed two maids climbing out of the Baymont window next door and running back over to work. So if the staff was working in lieu of doing something they should not then they might have more rooms ready for guests. The thing that really got me was returning one afternoon to our 2nd floor room I found 4 dirty diapers scattered down our walk way and a group of folded sheets that appeared to have fallen from a cart then a small plastic trash can that had been left out. I had to go get our keys reset (appears they only put a day on them for a 2 day visit) and informed the front clerk. The reply was how awful guess I will have to spend my break taking care of it. Do I care - just tell me it will be cleaned up. Then we are napping and I hear a noise go out and they have cleaned it up but left the trash can to catch the wind and bang down the hall so I had to go get it and bring to my room. Then to top it off my husband wanted a cup of coffee and the sign said out of regular coffee at 7:30 am - how are you out of coffee in a hotel?? Go get some....Again small touches.

Travelling from New Mexico to Arkansas, we chose this LQ for its close proximity to I-40. We checked in late at night and the night clerk was cheerful and very helpful. The room looked recently remodeled and was clean. Sheets and towels were fresh and we spent a restful and quiet night there. It is located next to a Denny's and other fast food places. Gas stations were located across the interstate and we got everything done (rest, food, and gas) at one exit.

Entry door to the room was 1/2 inch from fitting the door frame , light came in from top of door to bottom. Jam and lack assembly was refitted with plexiglass so they would make contact. I travel with my work weeks at a time and only in Hobbs, NM have I had a poorer room. This is not up to the standards of your other hotels. Shame on management for allowing such shoddy maintenance.
