“Good Taste of Texas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

We were driving through Amarillo, TX very briefly and stopped in Amarillo briefly for lunch. Most of the staff was pleasantly and they were not very busy. The prices were a good value for the amount of food that you got. I was pleased with my meal and recommend eating here. Feels touristy at times but also a great experience.

“A reliably good steak ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014 via mobile

... with good service. I'm through Amarillo several times a year, and I always try to time it for lunch or dinner at the Big Texan. The beers from their on-site operation are good exemplars of their types if you're done driving for the day. I've never been there when someone attempted the 72 oz free steak, but I keep hoping!

“KIND OF A TOURIST TRAP...BUT AN EXCELLENT STEAK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

We were passing through Amarillo and wanted a "Texas" experience. The Big Texan Steak Ranch gave us that, and although it appeared there were many locals there, it definitely was designed for tourists. The whole layout is designed to look like an old western town. There is a hotel on the property, but not sure if I would stay there. The main building has a very nice souvenir shop with a wide and varied selection. There was a one man performer singing old west songs in an adjacent room, but no one was in there watching. The main eating area is basically one big room set up like a huge cafeteria complete with western decor and all servers dressed as cowboys/cowgirls. The actual food was pretty good. When you do as many steaks as they do, they get pretty proficient at it, but it was obvious they used a good quality beef. Overall, I'm glad we ate there, but it definitely is a commercialized operation. Some would say it was a glorified Bonanza Steakhouse, but it was still a good stop for us.

“Big Texas, A MUST!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

We just finished a lovely dinner at the Big Texan and all I can say is WOW! They don't just do a fabulous perfectly cooked to order steak! they also do the sides as if that is all you're having! Just that perfect, too! We also loved their made just for them beer! Amber Ale and Summer Wheat both perfect! I had the 8 oz. sirloin, medium rare (and perfectly done), with sliced tomatoes (and even though they are out of season, I'd sworn they just picked them off the vine!) with sliced red onions….a BIG winner! And rounded it out with the fried okra! If you love okra, this is not to be missed! Not one bit greasy and perfectly cooked. My husband had the Caesar salad and one of the best we've ever eaten! Not overly dressed and perfectly tossed with great seasonings. Then he had the 10 oz. filet which was also juicy and perfectly cooked to medium rare just like we love them. He couldn't pass up the okra either and added some fried shrimp which were also perfect! Butterflied and not one drop of fat on them! It was a winner all the way around. And if the wonderful attentive staff (Ashley Marie is a real sweetie!) weren't enough you got to watch quite a number of guys try and eat the 72 oz. sirloin steak with all the fixings in under 60 min! That made for quite a floor show! Only one of 5 made it! They have strolling musicians for part of the time and they are quite a treat, too. If you pass this place up, you've not eaten in Texas! Not a cheap meal, but life is too short to eat cheap food! but for the quality of food and great atmosphere, staff, etc. you can call it a bargain!
