We were on vacation, on the route 66, so we got a stop in Amarillo. The Big Texas is the best steak that I've ever eat. TY so much. Ciao from Italy

Like meat? Eat here. Like goofy western decor? Eat here. Want a big slice of Texas? Eat here. Got kids? You get the point. And if you stay at the motel you get $2 off the breakfast buffet where Miss Sarah will cook up a three egg omelet of your choice. Service can be slow, the food is no frills, but the ambiance and friendly staff make it worth the trip.

The Big Texan is a fun, kitchy place to visit as a tourist. If you are looking for fine dining or top notch steak, would look elsewhere. Visited recently for the first time since I was a young teen 30 years ago. The decor looks pretty much as I remembered it as a kid and from the looks of some of the mounted wildlife, a good dusting wouldn't hurt. We were greeted by a hostess who seemed very indifferent about our visit and never made eye contact with us. Simply directed us to a table and quickly exited. Our waitress was more attentive but again seemed to be just going through the motions. I ordered a ribeye which was prepared correctly. My sides included mac-n-cheese which was inedible. My dining partner had chicken fried steak which she thought was good but her green beans lacked flavor. The gift shop is nice. This is the kind of place that you probably want to visit for the experience and the history behind the place, but don't expect to leave fulfilled.

We hadn't been to The Big Texan since Nov 2011 and decided it would be a good dinner stop on our road trip. The steaks were excellent and cooked to order. We ordered a sampler of their beer which was a good choice to help us decide which one to take home with us. =) The service was a little slower than we remembered; but that could have been because we were there on a Friday night instead of a weekday. I would definitely plan on stopping by again the next time we drive through.

Food is so-so, service is poor, seating sucks. Live old time western music was nice. But could and should have been much better food.
