Well I guess Man Vs Food has to produce shows whether or not the food actually taste good. I saw the show and made a diversion off of I-40 to eat at this place on Saturday for the noon lunch. We all ate different items. Found the chcken fry to be very very tender but the flavor was dissapointing. Grandy's or any chain has a better flavor and better gravy. The mashed potatoes where bland too. The rolls provided with the meal were the cheap type you find at the grocery store. You know the little mini-rolls that are sold in a tray, dozen at a time made by a machine.

Did taste the patty melt. Very good

Advice: Don't get your hopes up after watching the travel channel. Any good truckstop has just as good food but probably better that this place. Prices were reasonable.

After seeing the Stockyards Cafe on the Travel Channel, I had to try it. Even though I have lived in Amarillo all my life, that is one place I was not interested in going. One problem I had was the hours of operation. Luckily, the opened in the evening on Fridays. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I have had in a long time. It was very tender and the gravy had the wonderful homemade taste as if I had just made it. But that was quickly over shadowed by the horrible service that went with this wonderful meal. Not once did the waitress come back to my table. When I was almost done, she asked from another table area, if I needed anymore tea. I replied that I did not need any at the moment. After I finished, I started my stopwatch to see how long it would take for my waitress to come back and check on me. I wanted a piece of pie and order a chicken fry to go. After 12 minutes of being ignored, I aked another waitress to get my waitress. She passed my table many times, but never stopped to check on me. No service, no tip!

If you want to really eat where the locals eat - eat here. But remember who the locals are - west texas farmers and ranchers. The Cafe is section inside the actual Amarilo Cattle auction building. Cattle sales every Tuesday!

The food was good and our waitress was very kind.

It really is a trip back to the 1950s or 60s. Plastic plates and glasses, and the place probably has not been redecorated since the 60s.

It is what it is and as long as you expect that. We expected something a bit more quaint. There were also a couple of flies buzzing around.

We stopped here on our travels from the East to West coast. I found out about this through other web reviews. It was a bit hard to find, but once you did, it was fantastic. The restaurant isn't what you might expect, but sit down and you're treated very pleasantly!! The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the portions were huge. It's a complete meal in a flash - most meals even come with ice cream!! I'd recommend this to anyone and I hope to stop here again.
