“Small but good”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

It's family owned. The food is good and they serve huge portions. Have music on Fri. nites. You see lots of families in here.

“Well, there was food.”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

When driving through new towns on vacation, we like to eat at the local places or somewhere that the locals like to eat. A hole-in-the-wall dive can be an excellent surprise. I asked where the best place was and La Frontera was highly recommended, especially the nachos. Because it was so late in the day, we were thrilled to eat anything. Now we wish we had placed higher standards on what we put in our mouths.
Perhaps it was the late afternoon hour, but there was no one else in the place, which should have been an indicator. However, the person who waited on us was excellent, very friendly and listed the menu items that she liked. Of course, we got the much talked of nachos. The food came out quickly, which was a perk.
The food we did get was drab and poorly seasoned. The nachos had about a 1/2 pound of colby jack cheese microwaved on top of taco meat and stale chips. The portion size was huge, but after the first few bites, we didn't want to eat it anymore. In fact, we didn't want to eat much of anything anymore. I was surprised that the to-go "boxes" were just plastic plates with aluminum foil.
All in all, it wasn't a great visit. Friendly staff doesn't fill an empty stomach. We won't be stopping there when driving through again.

“We are never disappointed!”
Reviewed November 8, 2012 via mobile

We arrived about 45 minutes before closing. Never felt rushed to order or enjoy our meal. Food was good as always and the service was equally as good.

“A moment of silence for La Frontera”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

There was once a great restaurant in Amarillo named La Frontera. Under the ownership of Greg and Mary Martinez this restaurant was legendary. The best Mexican food you could find. The restaurant currently named La Frontera has no resemblance to the one built by Greg and Mary. The food is served right out of the refrigerator. Old, cold taco meat. The cheese on top of the enchiladas had obviously been melted at one time. But it had solidified into a hard blanket of goo by the time the enchiladas were served. The meat inside the enchiladas was cold as well. If you want bad food at high prices, this is the place for you. Let's take a moment of silence to mourn the passing of a great restaurant.

“Great meal”
Reviewed July 29, 2012 via mobile

We had not been to this restaurant in awhile. Food was as good as we remember and the hot sauce was very good. Wait staff was attentive with ice tea refills and service. We are going back soon. We are surprised at the poor reviews.
