“As soon as we opened the door, we were...”
Reviewed July 4, 2010

As soon as we opened the door, we were greeted with a cloud of musk. We immediately had to air out the room. The room next to us was missing the number plate and looked like it had vomit running down the door frame. The floors were awful. The bathroom floor tile was coated with dirt and scum that clearly came from the carpet in the room. The carpet is rarely, if ever, taken care of. Thankfully, we brought a playpen for our crawling daughter. We travel through Amarillo every year. We will not stay here again!

This place is the worst motel we have ever stayed in. For those reviewers that said it was adequate, you must be on crack. What a dump! The room was only superficially clean, but the bathroom showed dirt and hair in the corners, all the doors were filthy, the window screen was torn, but the kicker was the gauze and tape bandage on the back of the remote! It was totally disgusting. The pool area came free with cigar butts and old dirty tennis shoes. We didn't bother with the free cont. breakfast for obvious reasons.

Basics - room was clean, with a small refrigerator and microwave. My dreary, dark room needed updating. Appears to have been patched with cheap repairs. Looks like the tub was chipped and painted over. There was a cigarette hole in the bedspread in the non-smoking room. Not awfully important, because I always remove spreads when I can't be sure they were changed.
It was just an overnight stop and I'm not a motel snob, so I could overlook most of it except for two problems. The bed was uncomfortable and there was an odor that made me ill. Must be something they clean or perfume the rooms with. Had it not been so late, I would have left when I opened the door and smelled it. Instead, I turned on the bathroom vent and put the AC on high while I went for food. Some improvement, but I still reacted to it. It wasn't an unpleasant odor, but I have chemical allergies and it congested me and made sleep difficult. I did tell the desk clerk about it at check out, but don't know if they'd care to stop using whatever it is. I realize this is my own personal health issue, but I won't risk that again if I pass through there. I can't report anything I really liked except the biscuits and gravy at breakfast.

The room was clean and quiet with a hard mattress. Very convenient to everything in town for a great value. Walls are paper-thin, but it was never an issue. Internet access was not always reliable, but the pool was inviting and always empty, except for me. The owners, the Patels (husband, wife and teenaged daughter) were friendly, cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was fine, but some healthier choices--like fruit and yogurt--would have been nice. My room seemed to have a burgeoning flea population (always a problem in Texas). Fleas don't bite me, but for anyone with sensitivities it could be an issue. Designated parking would have been nice on those busy weekend nights.

We were 4 adults on a 3 week road trip travelling Route 66 and beyond. This is a motel not a hotel. The decor is very dated and is rather dark and dreary, BUT the room was very clean as was the parking lot, not even cigarrette buts. It seems to be well cared for. It is not in a very good location, adjacent to the interstate and there is not very much near it, you will need transportation for dining etc.
The gentleman on the front desk at check-in ( Frank ) was very helpful. We took his suggestion for dining ( Texas Roadhouse) was wonderful, glad we went. He also suggested we visit the Paulo Duro canyon, once again we were glad we took his advice.
The continental breakfast was minimal and not well stocked and the room was small and dark and dreary. There is very likely better places but for $70 for 4 adults, it was quite satisfactory.

The hotel staff was very pleasant; the continental breakfast was OK -- waffles in the shape of Texas were cute; the bathtub had gouges in it. There are no restaurants within walking distance and Papa John's delivery was a major disppointment. They have a separate truck parking lot.

This motel looks to be in the process of being slowly upgraded from a formerly scary budget property to a much nicer, moderate-level property. The lobby is nice and our room was clean and obviously had been recently updated and upgraded. The furniture, carpet, and bed were all in good shape. The bathroom however needed more work. While clean enough, it seemed to be updated with tons of white caulking, rather than with new fixtures, etc. The outside of the property also needs much more re-painting and overall general repairs/upgrades to be more on a par with the rooms. All-in-all though, this place is inexpensive and comfortable for a one night stay while on the road.
