When you pull up to the Big Texan Motel in Amarillo, Texas, it looks like an old western town. The fronts of the buildings are painted like you stepped back into the old west. The room was so clean and comfortable. The decor was all western. The price was great. They had a spot to let your dogs run and even stables if you were traveling with your horses. It is right on the highway so very convenient. We didn't even have to get back into our car to get a great meal. The famous Big Texan Steak Restaurant is right nextdoor. It was so relaxing after a long day of traveling. The next morning we were refreshed and back on the road to Colorado.

Not your run of the mill, characterless motel by any means. The Big Texan is clad like a brightly painted old western street front, has cowboy themed rooms, a horse motel out the back and Texas shaped swimming pool. It also has a fantastic steakhouse and its own brewery. It's a long way out from Amarillo centre, right on the Interstate, but really worth staying at. We enjoyed it. It's nice to see somewhere making an effort to add value to your stay without being hugely expensive.

Room Tip: If Interstate noise concerns you there is a second block of less interesting rooms behind the pool which might be quieter.

We stayed here for a night as part of our Route 66 adventure. The theme of the motel is wild west and is executed with great enthusiasm and conviction. From the swing doors to enter the bathroom, the (fake) hides and wood panelling throughout the property and the giant bull guarding the Texas Steak Ranch restaurant.
The rooms are very clean, well appointed and the comfy in size. The staff at reception were friendly and talkative and enquired about our journey and gave us information about the restaurant and it's famous (been on TV.) food challenge.
The food in the restaurant is great and well priced, the atmosphere is good and the theme is gain executed with great enthusiasm.
There is a shop that sells just about every branded nik-nak you could want and you can buy all kinds of foodie treats.

I would highly recommend a stay at the motel and a meal at the restaurant!

This is exactly the hotel we were looking to experience for our route 66 adventures. The room and hotel itself has been successful in creating a fun saloon feel to it.

Next door is the Texas Steak Ranch which will not only feed you a Texan meal but will keep you entertained through the singers and various arcade games ad photo opportunities.

It's great value for money and the staff are very friendly.

If you're a tourist go there and embrace it for the novelty of what it is :)

Room Tip: Nb there is no lift to the second floor - this shouldn't be an issue unless you have a bad back, knees etc

This is a fun and Funky Motel, you get the cowboy feeling. the staff was very and the room was clean. The best part is that it is across the parking lot from the Big Texan Steak Ranch Restaurant. The food was great and it has a fun atmosphere.
