“Super gelato, nice folks!”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

We stopped in search for something other than fast food on our road trip to CA. A bit light menu selection for vegetarians in our family, but we are in Texas. The pulled pork and slaw was extremely good and the gelato excellent. Mixed the chocolate with the Nutter Butter Crunch - holy cow. Also excellent shopping nearby - a perfect stop!

“Great place on 6th”
Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

I have been wanting to try this place for some time. I took my kids for lunch. The food was fabulous, and the staff was extremely nice. I had the Portobello mushroom burger, the kids had pulled pork sandwiches. We all had gelato for dessert. It was excellent. This is a great place to eat when shopping the antique stores on 6th street. Also, there is a ramp on the side door which makes it handicapped accessible, so the hubby and I can have a date night there sometime.

“Gelato that should have a health warning!!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

We were on an antiques hunt in this Historic Route 66 one mile strip and stopped in here for lunch. Boy, I'm glad we did. The atmosphere feels authentic Texan, the sort of place the locals go to. The frito pie I had with pulled pork and cheese was delicious and plentiful. The burger with slaw equally yummy. And the red pepper soup was served with the best cactus shaped corn bread ever. But the star of the show was the eponymous gelato. So many flavours to choose from. All homemade, it was hard to choose. I had to have 3 scoops--banana, apple and the star of my dish: avocado and bacon. Wow. Hubby made the mistake of mis-hearing the description of the 4 horseman and was soon coughing and spluttering over this gelato made with cayenne, jalapeño, and chili pepper with a bit of scorpion thrown in too. A once in a lifetime experience.

“Just GO!”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

On a roadtrip along Route 66, a friend insisted that we stop in to see Cody Anderson's little ice cream shop - Cowboy Gelato. The gelato was fantastic . . . but wait, there's more. Frito pie. Incredible burgers. And, recently added - live music. Cody's bringing in all kinds of local talent - and they're good . . . Austin City Limits good (Cody often plays bass with whoever is there). Anyway, go for the gelato, stay for dinner and enjoy the music, the crowd (some the country's nicest folks live here), the scene. Easy going and not to be missed. One last thing, Cody is the local chapter president of the Route 66 Society.

“Excellent gelato; some good foods; huge helpings”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

The exterior isn't very impressive & neither is in the interior. However, the staff is super friendly & the prices are excellent. The pecan pie gelato is superb. We ordered a barbecue sandwich plate & a rib plate. The barbecue sandwich had enough meat on it for 3 sandwiches & was fabulous. It came with a side of their special homemade curly fries (I forget what they call them) & a side of their slaw which includes an unusual spicy dressing - very good. Also a small sampling of a fruit salad that was also good, even though the coconut & other combined ingredients reminded me a bit of sun lotion.

The sides on the rib plate were the same as the barbecue sandwich plate. The ribs were tender & there were 3 enormous meaty ones on the plate. However, they had a bit of a taste & smell of charcoal lighter fluid. The barbecue was served in a squirt bottle rather than on the meat, so you could put the amount you wanted. Sauce was very good. Jukebox was either on LOUD or there was dead silence. In spite of that, were it not for the disappointment with the ribs, I may have rated this a 4.
