A wonderful older building has been renovated trendily, tastefully, comfortably. It's historic on the outside, hip on the inside. The decor is a combination of mid-century modern and contemporary HGTV. We loved that the lobby had interesting coffee table books on hand, some dealing with Amarillo's intriguing history. The cafe wasn't open when we were there, so I can't comment on that, but we did appreciate being able to purchase a bottle of beer right there. We were upgraded to a spacious corner suite overlooking Polk Street, and we enjoyed the urban scenery, watching the eclectic crowd drawn to the apparently popular Acapulco Mexican Restaurant right across the street. [We decided to skip that option and took the easy stroll to Ohms Cafe (a more upscale establishment, currently highly rated in TripAdvisor).] Seeing a number of nightclubs nearby along Polk did give us pause: would we be kept awake by competing disco serenades? As it turned out, THAT wasn't the problem; we drifted off to sleep unaware as Saturday night fever pulsed outside. However, at around two o'clock in the morning, we were awakened by a fundamentalist preacher hollering through a bullhorn, berating hell-bound club patrons on their way home for the night, ordering them to find a savior and repent. To us, this was local color, but if you are a dedicated sinner or have to get up early the next day, you might need to pray really hard for the preacher to quiet down. He did, eventually. So our tip would be to request a room in the back. That said, we really enjoyed our one night here, and if for some weird reason we're ever back in Amarillo, we'd stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: If you're worried about potential night noise from traffic, etc., request a room on 8th Ave. or

The rooms are spacious and comfortable inside one of Amarillo's historic skyscrapers. You're in the heart of the city, with restaurants, theatre, bars, clubs, sports, shopping and a civic center all within walking distance.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the northside

This hotel is probably one of the nicest in the area and a good value for someone looking to find a nice room in a building that's different from the normal business hotel.

I personally feel that the renovation of this historic building has made this hotel into a unique and pleasant experience for guests.

I found the staff to be very friendly and attentive to any needs I had.

The rooms can be a little on the small side, but that's probably to be expected in an old building. If you need to have a ton of space or need to bring in a lot of luggage or other supplies, then this may not be the most convenient place for you.

The beds are comfortable and everything was clean. You do have to park in a garage next to the building so it is a little more walking than normal so be aware. However, it was very easy to get in and out.

I will more than likely always stay here on future visits to Amarillo.

This is one of Courtyard's historic properties. Formerly a medical building and bank it has been transformed and updated to a very nice Courtyard hotel. Perfect for singles, couples, and business travelers. Probably not much fun for kids.

Rooms are nicely furnished, some with amazing views of downtown Amarillo (based on I-40 I you may not know Amarillo even has a downtown, I didn't). Comfy beds, modern, TV, PPV, Internet and nice bathrooms. No disappointments for me or the misses.

Staff is super friendly and extra helpful. They seem to understand real people traveling have needs and they do their best to accommodate. The girls working the breakfast area, with full Starbucks set-up, were especially friendly and helpful. Seriously Starbucks should send all of their employees here for training on the right way to treat every customer. It was that good.

If you arrive by car take your luggage in FIRST then park in the attached multistory garage. The access to the hotel from the garage is via stairwell and you will be carrying your bags down several flights of stairs to reach the elevators on the first floor. Other than this minor annoyance everything exceeded expectations.

+ Clean, modern, and comfortable.
+ Staff ready to go above and beyond.
+ Breakfast, mini-store, internet, PPV, everything a business or solo traveler needs

- Kids would hate this place... which makes it more appealing to many adults I suspect.
- Parking garage access a bit inconvenient.
- A few blocks off I-40 but worth it.

Overall: A hidden gem in Amarillo. Don't miss it.
