I don't know what it is that is so entertaining about cars stuck nose down in the middle of the field, but I can hardly pass through Amarillo without seeing them. You definitely have to add this to your must sees in Amarillo. Where else can you legally graffiti something to your hearts content?

What was the artist thinking take several Cadillacs bury them front bumper down and let anyone paint them.. Sounds like fun to me. Located west of Amarillo on the north side of I-44 in the middle of a field with street parking.

If you bring your own spray paint you can contribute to the art. Do everyone a favor pick up some trash from the cars.

This is something you must see atleast once. It is a little ways off I 40 East. You can spray paint your name. You might even see the cows up close. Other than that its boring.

Located just off I-40, Cadillac Ranch is indeed a diamond in the rough. Or actually, 10 Cadillacs in the rough.

Ready to greet you as you depart your car from the I-40 feeder road are a bevy of handsome bovines, black and brown and every color under the sun. Don't worry: the cows run away as soon as you approach, though the fear of an unmitigated stampede persists throughout your journey.

The exhibit itself is roughly a football field's distance from the main road and worth every penny you don't pay since it's free. There are -- in all their spray-painted splendor -- ten cadillacs wedged into the ground at an angle that pays homage to the glorious West Texas sunset. They are direct, unassuming, and brilliant. See the Wikipedia entry ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Ranch ) for a great summary of the history of Cadillac Ranch.

Tips for your visit:
(1) Bring your own spraypaint cans! We only brought one color but two would mean you could paint a canvas first.
(2) Sunset's a great time to be there.
(3) If it's rained recently, the cow pasture leading to it can be quite muddy. Bring shoes you're willing to soil.
(4) A tripod's always good to have since there's not necessarily a steady stream of visitors to take your photos.
(5) If possible, bring your own frame (see photos below)

All in all, well worth it if you'll be in Amarillo!

We crossed the US in summer and also drove the 66. So, just before we hit Amarillo (we came from the west) we were heading for the Cadillac Ranch.

What you will see is a bunch of buried old Cadillacs. But painted with more colors than a rainbow. It's one of the things you have to see if you do Route 66 or if you're close to Amarillo. It's quite easy to find, you will see the cars from the Interstate already, if you do, just take the next exit and head for the cars.

You gotta park you car on the side of the road....and you'll not be the only one there. The last few steps you have to walk. And it's really fun to look at. If you like cars...you might like it even more....or less, if you love Cadillacs so much (it might hurt you, see them buried like that).

There also will be paint around. So feel free to leave your name or something on one of the cars. But be beware of the wind, you don't wanna paint yourself!

It's nice thing to see...I had fun. But it's nothing you stay for hours. And if you are not around Amarillo, you gotta decide your own if it's worth to take a ride here. But maybe you should, so you can grab a juicy steak at the Big Texan Steak Ranch....nice!
